But it’s a 2013 Roush Screw!

Hello Everyone,

First time writer, longtime reader. I have loved the Ford Raptor since I first laid eyes back in 2010 when I saw the supercab. And thought to myself, why don’t they make a quad cab version? The Ford Raptor consumes my free time. Not my actual free time but the time you have between trips to Costco or waiting to pickup/drop off your kids (literally and figuratively) or whenever I’m on hold at work and I pickup my cell to check AutoTrader to see if any of the Raptors I’m watching in my own little watchlist have gone down in price that day. But the thing it’s, it never gets old or boring or uninteresting. So here I am, with an opportunity to buy a 2013 screw with low mileage ( under 50k) and many tasteful mods that I don’t need but why not. And the one thing I thought I wanted, the almighty Roush Supercharger (stage 2 to be clear) is giving me serious concerns. Not because of any mechanical issue it has now but the fact that it was not factory installed brand new. Rather installed by the Ford dealer that sold him the truck as a certified used vehicle. Now the current owner purchased the extended warranty as well as the service agreement. I have not seen these documents but the remaining time left is just over two years and they are asking $2500 for both in addition to the asking price. The owner is a model Raptor owner. Serviced before the date needed, only the best aftermarket parts when added. Only 12k miles put on the truck since he owned it in the last two years and the supercharger was added when he purchased it. Are their any real downsides to buying a 2013 vs a 2014 other than the led light upgrade and just being a year newer? Like I’m talking “the wheels fall off a 2013 after you hit 100k and no one knows why” type reasons. Their are some things I would change cosmetically but how bad would it be if I bought it and removed the SC because it was not factory added by Roush to make it more Reliable longterm. Would that be cause for banishment from this Forum. Thanks for taking my call.

No real differences between a 13/14. Other than colors.

I would just not buy that truck if you are considering taking off the blower. A lot of money to do so, to downgrade back to stock levels, unless you do it yourself.

It just comes down to how hard the previous owner drove the truck. Was it pushed hard, to the point of where wear items have accelerated in decline or was it driven lightly, with a WOT hit here and there.
Cause if it was pushed hard, even if you took the blower off, the wear has already occurred and it's not like the truck will become more durable after the fact.
If you are worried about reliability but you want a SC truck just take care of it and don't beat the living shit out of it. When you are driving "normally" there's no extra wear persay driving the truck with a SC compared to NA.

Check to see if the previous owner did the oil pump gears or not. It's not the end of the world if he didn't as I know a factory roush truck owner with more mods+ more boost with over 100k on the clock without any issues. And it was pushed when we went offroading in S. FL heat.

That warranty may not cover any engine/powertrain stuff since the blower was added. Yea, the magnuson moss act blah blah blah, but if you crack a rod/window mod or bearing they can point to the aftermarket blower and say that caused it. Good luck winning that battle.

Even if you took the blower off, a dealer/Ford engineer can see the truck was flashed at some point for the supercharger tune and boom back to fighting Ford/dealer about warranty.

I wouldn't remove the blower. I added a Roush blower to my 2012 at 50K miles (around 94K now) and it's been mostly fine. The only issues I had were with the stock exhaust manifold and stock cat. I've since gone to a full exhaust. I did eventually do the oil gear when I added a few other goodies (smaller pulley, exhaust). I also recommend the larger throttle body if that hasn't been done.
In short - I'd pay attention to the exhaust and the oil pump gear (if you have any way of knowing). I wouldn't really be too concerned that the blower was added afterwards. I'd also check out what size pulley it is running.

I don't understand where lots people think "Ford" has anything to do with a Supercharger on a Raptor.

There's no such thing!!!!

The Truck was either shipped to Roush and then the dealer or the dealer installed them.

I agree. I understand that it is an aftermarket product but when purchased and installed by the company that manufactured the vehicle (Ford Dealer). And also warrantied by the same company it seems they are congruent.

Installed Roush Stage 2 SC at 90K and absolutely no problems, but I do take good care of the truck. Basically everything else under the hood is stock. Just wanted the extra HP while towing and it sure made a difference.

Why would someone want to buy a Raptor and then take off a $10K upgrade....hell,there are still plenty of non-SC Gen1's out there, many still good deals...Just makes no sense to me...Bumpers,Lights,Wheels,Graphics...yeah..to each his own...but a major Engine upgrade like a SC..I think not....move on to a different one...
I've got the Whipple on mine...been on it since DAY ONE..shipped to Shelby from the dealer and at 54K its still running fantastic...and I'd NEVER give up the whine of that SC..."almost" as good as sex....almost...OK..its equal to "good" sex, before I start getting shit from some of you guys...LOL.!!
