Oil Filter Replacement

This is exactly why I went with the SX version. I’ve had the SX valve installed for 5k moles and no issues so far. We’ll see.

My local mechanic I use 90% of the time for our DD's unless there's a warranty reason for the dealer, commented "when & why did you install that oil pan valve when you're bringing it into me for oil changes??" I was like - well maybe I feel like doing it myself sometime & I don't wanna make a mess of my garage, OR maybe you should thank me so now you can change my oil in the shop w/o making a mess of the floor or my skid plate etc. lol

his response essentially was "I've seen these on a ton of different vehicles lately usually from people who are OCD on maintenance, does make the oil change process that much easier/cleaner"

so FWIW - sounds like he's used to seeing them on numerous different vehicles & didn't feel any need to mention any issues w/ fitment or leaking. I have 10,000 miles on it thus far not an oz of oil has leaked.

One question I do have for you guys - whenever I change the oil on my vette or on my previous GM truck the filer screwed in from the bottom, not the side. Most vehicles I've owned were this way. I always fill the new filter up to the brim w/ new oil before installing on those vehicles, in the Raptor I couldn't really do that because a good amount would pour out & make a mess everywhere.

Would you just partially fill it or not at all just put some used oil on the O ring?

I just fill the new filter a bit with new oil, not to the brim.

You will not have an issue. I have used the fumoto valve on multiple cars going back 10 years and never had an issue.

I do the same thing... I probably fill it about half way and screw it on - oil doesnt run out.

I use the "Clear Flood" mode and let it indicate oil pressure before letting off the accelerator.

I just did my second oil change on my truck yesterday. For the most part, it was pretty easy - especially after adding the Fumoto drain valve during my first oil change. But the oil filter... what a pain to get off!!!!

I can't get more than one hand in from the skid plate, and accessing from the top isn't much easier. My biggest issue is that I need two hands to use either a band or jaw wrench. The Harbor Freight piece of crap oil wrench I'm using gets stuck on the filter - so tight that I need to use a hammer to get it off.

Out of curiosity, is anyone changing it from the top of the truck rather than the skid plate access hole?

What are you guys using to remove the filter? Band, fluted wrench, etc? If you're using a wrench style, what brand?

Is anyone removing the hard plastic hose that practically sits up against the filter?

OK..did my first oil change on my baby,and after reading all the comments on this thread and others thought it was going to be a nightmare....remove skid plate,dont remove skid plate,filter from top,filter from bottom...buy a Fumoto Valve,dont buy a Fumoto valve...seriously guys....Unless I missed something or have a really special Raptor,changing the oil on it was almost the easiest oil change on any vehicle I've ever done...and can only figure a lot of guys just dont know their way around a tool box...LOL...I even went and bought a Fumoto Valve so I could install during the first change....and didnt even put it in!
MY drain plug is at the rear of engine,no where near the skid plate,and its a simple reach up with 5/8" socket and remove...drain oil and replace....the value might save me 15 seconds next time,but then would have to deal with the slower drain rate...DAMN,ya dont even have to jack this baby up to do it..!! I was on my back for all of a minute...removing and reinstalling....
On to the Filter...again...whats all the drama about....stand on a step stool,reach down and its OFF..! Remove skid plate?? Now THAT would of been DRAMA x 2 ... I did drop a couple rags down on it under the filter,just in case there was massive oil comming out of old filter and when I took them out not a drop....Entire job took less than 30 minutes,and thats only because I was thinking the whole time I'm having a Senior moment,forgetting something and gonna blow up my engine....NOT....figure next time now 15-20 at most...took longer to gather up everything...
Also,mine was done at some Jiffy-Lube type place by original owner and had some small cheapie filter,so I upgraded to the K&N.Its twice the size,and with the 1" nut on end...gonna be super easy to remove.!
Just my 2 cents....now I only hope my Spark Plug change will be as easy...LOL

Correct...MY BAD...didnt realize you guys were talking about a Gen2...crazy how Ford made it the ***** for you guys with the V-6...Bummer...
