I have a 2017 and the passenger door speaker cuts out and then comes back. It doesn't seem to be related to bumps or influenced by any motion. It just randomly cuts out and a few seconds or minutes later it will come back loud and clear. And it doesn't sound as if it is a loose wire or anything because when it goes out, it goes silent. No static or loose connection type sounds. Does anyone else have this problem?

Is it the stock front speaker? If so, get to the dealer and get them to fix it.

If not, I’ve had this happen when i replaced the speakers; the harness extensions worked their way loose and did exactly like you describe. I secured the cabling better, problem solved.

If it’s still stock speakers, once the dealer fixes it please, for the sake of all things Holy, upgrade the speakers ! :)

As far as I know they are stock, I got it used... But I will contact the dealer to see about getting it fixed. What kind of speakers did you replace the stock ones with?

Initially, I went with Pioneer A series all around. They sound pretty good and if you’re on a budget, they’re a solid choice. See the “under $500” thread in the audio forum.

When I added the amps, I swapped out the fronts for Morel components. For Audio mods, the ’17 is an easier and less expensive to upgrade animal.

You can do the sub / amp with speaker level inputs
swap out the speakers, and optional add some sound insulation
when ready, run power / ground to the cab add an amp and R/F DSR1, do some connections and you’ve got good sounding tunes.

So if I simply swap the stock speakers for the Pioneer A series, how big of an improvement is that going to be if nothing else is changed? Would the new speakers use all of the same holes, connectors, etc....?

Jeff, I am pretty sure there are pics of both Sony and b&o speakers in the under 500 thread, the paper used in them is about the consistency of one of those umbrellas they put in umbrella drinks.

any aftermarket speaker you put in will be of higher quality, period.
The ’17’s were easier to do “in pieces” but I believe you can swap out the main speakers in the ‘18+ as well. To me, maybe a db louder, if that, but the sound was cleaner and more crisp. OTOH, it’s going to make you want to pull the amp and go with a DSP+ amps to correct the poor mixing stock.

Speakers are the audio “gateway mod”.
You need speakers, inexpensive adapters and harnesses.

So as it turns out, Hertz speakers are in the doors and there is an Arc audio amp and subwoofer behind the back seat. I have traced all the wires and checked all the connections while having that speaker isolated with the fade/Bal.

I can hear very slight hissing coming from the speaker when the volume is down, so I believe it has power, just no sound/input.

Any suggestions on how to find the problem?

do you still have the factory stereo amp (not sub) or is it a full system amp?

if so, can you check the amp for possibly a low gain setting or poor connection on that channel?

IF so, check the connections to the speaker. Mine shook loose as follows.
did the speaker swap, adapter plates, harness adapter and all. The harness connector was bouncing free, unsecured and eventually pulled the passenger front speaker loose on one terminal. I went back and secured all of them and haven’t had that happen again.

If you’ve been amp’d ... Lots more potential troubleshooting to do.

first things first
using balance and fade, put an audio track on that uses the speaker, and see if there is sound, and if it’s full sound. bonus points: adjust the connectors while this is going on.

if you end up with low volume, you can try swapping the front speakers / optionally the harness adapters side to side and see if the problem remains on the same side or goes to the other side.

if it goes to the other side, it’s likely the speaker or connections. if the problem stays on the same side, it’s likely not the speaker.

good luck

Thanks for your help. I have swapped the speakers and the speaker works fine in the other door. Then I put a multimeter on the wires and one wire shows 25 on the 200m setting and the other shows 11.5. Most of the other speakers are showing 25 also. I'm not familiar with using a multimeter, so I'm not sure what that means, but I'm guessing one wire to that speaker isn't getting enough volts/amps?
