93 or 87 and why?

Is it necessary to run 93 octane in the Gen 2 Raptor?

i run 93 because its cleaner and is better for the engine, (and most of the times comes with some sort of detergeant aspect).

Lots of information on here if you search this topic. In a nutshell, forced induction HO engines benefit significantly from higher octane because it permits more aggressive timing, resulting in better power. You really will not get the full potential out of this engine if you are not using premium (high octane) fuel. To me, this seems a shame and a waste given the incremental difference in the price, and the fact that I paid a premium for an HO engine. Also, you will get better fuel economy, which will at least partially offset the higher cost of premium fuel. All that said, the Raptor will run fine on 87.

I have a Gen1 but I have noticed that when I run premium (91-93 depending on what I can get) over 87 I get better response from the pedal (full horsepower available w premium?). Could also be placebo though.

I can say that the engine feels like it runs smoother when I put in 100% gas instead of 10% ethanol blend.

I just got my new 19 and the dealer obviously filled it with 87, truck felt sluggish and slow. I ran it down to less then 1/4 tank and filled with 93 and it’s a whole new truck, a lot quicker and way better throttle response.

I’ve been running 93 since I’ve picked mine up at the dealer, did a tank with 87 and it was noticeable.. 93 offers Better MPG and performance but I’m no race car drive could just be a mental thing. Ha

Ethanol Free is only 88 octane down here in FL so not worth it in the Raptor but I always put Ethanol free in my boat and lawn equipment.

Ethanol free gas isn’t always too common to come across these days. I also know pure gas is better for many reasons. Only easy access to ethanol free is from WaWa where I’m at and it’s only 89. Give or take close to price of premium 93. So 93 octane is the better choice for a turbo motor.
