What's it worth? 14' Screw w/ 47k miles

Hello all. Going to look at a 14' screw Raptor later today. The dealership just took it in so they're are any pics yet on their Cars.com post. I only live 30 min away so I don't mind hopping on the bike to go take a look. I searched the VIN number (1FTFX1R65EFB84939) and it seems to be loaded, Ruby Red exterior and Black interior. The milage is 46,872. The asking price is $39,400, which seems low for a '14 with that many miles.

I looked at the CarFax and this truck has had 1 owner and is from Houston, Texas. It also listed 'damage reported' on 09/02/15. An acquaintance of mine that runs a high-end, used car dealership swears to stay away from Raptors coming out of Texas and Arizona. With the low price I suspect something maybe up.

I'll make sure to check out all the usual spots to ensure this thing hasn't been totally beaten to hell...bump stops, skid plates, bed gap, corner panels, etc. If it all checks out, what would be a fair out-the-door number?

Maybe $35k with that low mileage...I’d be checking real close. Possible flood damage in Houston too...hurricanes and so forth...

Damage report generally means a single vehicle accident or damage sustained without a police report filed. Check everything you normally would - mainly the frame rails and marks on the cab from the bed hitting the body. Other things that can lower the value is overall condition of the body/interior and honestly the ruby red trucks seem to be lowest on the price scale.

Thank you, I completely forgot about the potential for flood damage. That would make a lot of sense. Any Gen 1 Raptor by me with under 50k miles lists in the mid $40's. So when I saw this one at slightly under 40k, I was like no way.

Do you know what would be a tell-tale sign of a truck that was submerged? I'll give it a quick Google and YouTube search before I head out.

Have the dealer put it up on a lift for you to inspect. Search all of the nooks and crannies. Do a debris check. Use a headlamp/flashlight and look at the top surfaces of frame, hitch, spare tire mount, above skid plate, bottom of motor.

Use your bare hand to feel these upper surfaces. There should be dust...however clumps of mud or grass should not be all over.

Harder to do is to check under carpet for mold or signs of water entry.

If they won't put the Raptor on a lift, either crawl under the truck or take a pass.

Update from today's trip to the dealership...the truck wasn't there. Turns out it's still in transit from Houston. I guess I'll have to wait until next weekend.

I've heard before about vehicles with water damage being shipped out of Texas to all over the country. There's a name for it in the car industry but I forgot it. Many many rigs have been flooded in Texas over the last 20 years due to the hurricanes hitting there.

And not only Texas...right here in WA. When I was in business one of my accounts was a Ford Dealership...they were hit with 3 / 100 year floods in Chehalis,during the 30 years I was in business..closing down I-5 for days.I was up close and personal with the damage,and only allowed thru the roadblocks because I was a Service Co. and needed to get in to help with the clean-up...Its been a while,but there were well over 100 cars and trucks flooded,most up to the roofs...Nasty lot of vehicles....Once I-5 opened,for days,Auto transporters were pulling in and out loading them up...I assumed to take to the Salvage yard to crush,but talked with one of the drivers and he said they had been sold to dealers out of state...and titles were suppose to be stamped "Salvage" or something like that..like I said,its been a while....I was shocked and all I could think is some poor bastard might get a vehicle thats been underwater for a week...Cause if the dealer isnt honest,"Salvage" could mean some water damage,but dont think they have to disclose how bad it was...
I would think a Vin or CarFax report should show it,but I'm no expert...
Bottom line....Do your homework...

No salvage title, but like you said, not everyone is honest. It could have not been reported. I'll give it a look and smell once she gets in.
