We go on road trips (wi-down south)
a few times a year. I have the retrax pro, question for you fellas. What are my options when my gear is more than the retrax cover. Are there any solutions like a removable bed cover that can go over the retrax? Or am I stuck with tarp? How would you strap it on without having water channeling back into the bed if it rains to protect the gear?
Thanks!

if you have the Retrax PRO MX version, you can add a Yakima or a Thule rack on the top. This will let you put either a basket or a small cargo box on top.

I guess in short what are my options if I got something to high and can’t close the cover...
Pack in waterproof, windproof containers. Otherwise wrap in heavy plastic and tape it all up so the wind won’t rip the plastic off. Tarps just do not work.

I have the Retrax Pro MX with the rails. As Wheelman pointed out this gives the option to mount towers and accessories from Thule/Yakima etc ... I haven't mounted towers as of yet, but closing the cover much as possible + using dry bags for what's in the bed has worked for me thus far.

You have to have a Retrax PRO XR to mount a basket or rails on top. The standard PRO MX does not allow you to do that.

However, if you already have a a PRO MX cover, you can cover it to a PRO XR cover by purchasing the new rails. Once the new rails are on, lots of options from Yakima, Thule, and more.
