This weekend I was going camping with some friends and to get into the site you had to climb a few hills. They were pretty steep and loose but nothing crazy. I put it in 4lo with the rear locker on just to be safe. Halfway up I heard a super loud pop and then a horrible noise anytime I tried to give it gas. I backed down and checked underneath. CV shafts look fine on both the hub and diff side. Then I looked at the diff and there was fresh grease all over where the front drive shaft goes into the front diff. There was also a chunk of metal on the ground underneath and slowly dripping was gear oil. Luckily was able to limp out in 2wd to the street and call a tow truck. I’m hoping this is an isolated incident because I didn’t think these front diffs are known to be weak and the hill really was not that crazy.

No it was just slow crawling. There wasn’t any hopping before hand. It felt like I had good grip up until it popped.

No unfortunately neither myself or my buddies use a dash cam. I may have to invest one one now.
