FYI.... new to forum, but had to join and post this. Absolutely pissed!!! Bought brand new 2019 raptor 800A from Apple Ford in Red Lion Pa 2 months ago. Noticed a subtle stuttering through out acceleration through all gears similar to hitting a rev limiter. Brought it in for service explained the condition... 2.5 hours later service says no error codes were found its fine. I said i wanted to take a tech out for a drive and the stuttering was even more subtle then usual, he said its fine and thats your traction control. I said i dont believe it, theres no way. But it ended because they said theres nothing wrong. So i have to live with it. Flash forward 1.5 months its still been doing it, now 3600 miles on it, i put it in sport mode and 4A to show my older son how fast it is. Took off FAST through 4th gear then it died, all power stopped and red oil pressure light light came on. Turned off and back on reset it. Replicated it again did it again. Took it to Manderbach ford in reading pa. 2 hours later, they say its ******. There was only 2 quarts of oil in engine and it calls for 6.5. There is tons of metal shavings in the oil. Warranty claim made for a brand new engine to be installed tomorrow. Im pissed. Should i bitch up a storm, have them buy it back and ask for a 802A Raptor?? Cause now i think my title is gonna show something ****** up.advice??

a new motor will not show on your title for one thing, it will show up on an OASIS report (the ford history report on your vehicle). The average person with half a brain will not be concerned about Ford putting a new motor in the truck. This is why you have a warranty.

If you want them to buy it back you'd have to check the lemon laws for your state and see if it applies, outside of that Ford owes you a new motor and nothing else.

I’ve had major repairs covered under both factory and aftermarket warranties and used the lemon law successfully. based on just the words in your post, and I’m disclaiming because there may be more to the story, you don’t have sufficient grounds for a buy back. Ford has, admittedly after some difficulty, agreed to replace the engine, which is what the warranty requires.

No, this is not normal and no, just because there are no codes showing it does not indicated there is nothing wrong - NVH complaints, for example, NEVER throw codes. Do they send trucks back out with drive shafts out of round? NO ( ok, they shouldn’t ).

This was **** poor troubleshooting on the part of the mechanic, and service advisor.

You were correct to disbelieve the traction control comment, however, you don’t say if you offered to turn traction control off and repeat the test which would have ruled out T/C or stability control. T/C and stability control are nothing like a miss or rev limiter, they are exceptionally smooth at pulling power.

Flash forward 1.5 months its still been doing it, now 3600 miles on it, i put it in sport mode and 4A to show my older son how fast it is. Took off FAST through 4th gear then it died, all power stopped and red oil pressure light light came on.

Did you check the oil at this point?

Replicated it again did it again. Took it to Manderbach ford in reading pa. 2 hours later, they say its ******. There was only 2 quarts of oil in engine and it calls for 6.5.

did you take it to a different place due to location, concerns about the initial diagnosis or rather, the lack thereof or other?

There is tons of metal shavings in the oil. Warranty claim made for a brand new engine to be installed tomorrow. Im pissed.

I’d be willing to bet that they saw the initial claim, realized it wasn’t troubleshot correctly and got you scheduled for an ASAP repair.

At this point, you will need to wait for the repair to be completed and when done, test drive it thoroughly. Don’t take it back if it’s still hesitating as before, but likely the new motor will take care of it.

Now, if by some oddity the truck misbehaves on the test drive, do what you did before and take the tech with you on the drive and give them the opportunity to make it right. if they resist or keep it longer and then the truck is still misbehaving, then you go to Ford C/S and express your sincere displeasure. The reason for the wait is to show Ford that you’ve given them a chance to make it right and that you realize mistakes happen. You gave them several chances to make it right and here you are.

Good luck, hopefully you don’t have any more trouble post repair.

Dammmm - I want a new engine too - But a 6.2
The only problem for you is the down time of not having your truck. Per your service contract they should be supplying you with a loaner vehicle.
When I had warrantee work done on my truck, the loaner they gave me didn't like some of the terrane I had to cover for work. I informed them of this before they gave me the loaner. The dealer wasn't to happy when I returned the loaner vehicle. Oh well - I told the service manager and he said OK. Loaner was a 2wd ford SUV can't remember what but it could carry enough momentum to traverse some of the terrane on the un-improved roads I encountered.

Just a thought as well (may or may not explain your condition, as its tough to troubleshoot via the internet w/o being in the truck): The late model turbo vehicles that Ford builds (3.5L, 2.3L, etc) have a behavior that is similar to the symptoms you described, and its normal behavior of the wastegate bleeding off boost. You can verify by watching the boost gauge on the cluster and see what its doing. These motors do not pull in the same (linear) way that a 5.0, 4.6, 5.2 normally aspirated do under WOT full load conditions. They boost up quickly (especially with the transmission gearing), and then seem to fall flat when they hit a predetermined boost level. HTH?

Thank you all for the advice and comments. No, I never checked the oil at any point as i just bought it and all this happened within 2 months. Bad on my part but i had ASSUMED it had oil as its new and the service was good to go.
Im supposed to hear today from service if the engine came in, then they say it will take two days total to complete the installation. Copy that on the lemon law buy back stuff that was mentioned. Just pissed off in general, knowing that it wasnt perfect from the start. I’ll update as things occur. Thanks everyone.

From my experience. I may have some advice for you.

I have a Raptor because Ford bought my Focus RS back after 2 head gaskets and a transmission leak. You probably won’t get them to agree to a replacement/buyback at this stage, I couldn’t even get them to replace the whole engine or give an extended warranty after the first head gasket. This even after my car sat for weeks because the parts weren’t available.

If I can caution you in any manner, you want to avoid the buyback process at all costs. It was quite literally the most horrible customer service experience I have ever had. Ford outsources the process to an external company, and they literally could not give less of a shit about expeditious resolutions. It also screws the dealers because they have literally zero incentive to help you finish the deal; in my case the dealer just put me at the end of the line of paying customers. I ordered the truck and the dealer literally let the truck sit on their lot for 2 weeks after it was delivered till they made time for me to finish the process.

I may have made out well financially on the deal but it was a serious headache in the long run. In your situation, I’d take the new engine and carry on.

It’s stories like this that squash the mod bug for me. I don’t want anything to jeopardize my warranty in a case like this.

Per Baugustine: "The late model turbo vehicles that Ford builds (3.5L, 2.3L, etc) have a behavior that is similar to the symptoms you described, and its normal behavior of the wastegate bleeding off boost. You can verify by watching the boost gauge on the cluster and see what its doing."...

This is new info about the 3.5 Turbos causing the stuttering issues. If the turbos are bleeding off pressure in short spurts I guess it could cause the stuttering. But, in my truck it happens in both partial and full throttle conditions. It seems like the ECM computer should keep the engine from hitting full boost and bouncing off of the pressure release. Maybe thats what the sw update fixes?

Thats a bummer on the blown engine on an almost new 2019 with only 4k miles. Lucky the dealer didnt try to blame you for the low oil. With all the metal pieces in the oil there must be an internal engine failure that caused the oil loss. Congrats on getting a new engine easily. Did your old engine throw any codes just before it shut down? If they tell you what caused the engine failure that would by great to know. Was the low oil the cause or the result of the overall failure?

Unfortunately its not safe to assume that the Ford Techs that work on your Raptor know what they are doing. No disrespect intended to the good Techs! If there are no error codes and the diagnostic computer tells them everything is OK then most techs stop there and say NTF working as designed. The mechanics that actually know how to troubleshoot without a computer telling them what to check are far and few between.

Update on my 2017 SCREW Stuttering. Now that its getting hot the issue has come back intermittently and very mildly on part throttle under load. I wonder if a higher pressure Blow By Valve or tune would stop the bounce off the turbo pressure limit if thats whats causing the stuttering?

There has to be a Ford Engineer or Master Level Mechanic out there that knows whats causing this and what a solid fix is. Why the big secret?

My Raptor is at 6800 miles now. No oil loss issues thank goodness! Its just a pint below full on the dipstick now. 3500 miles since first oil change. Truck says change oil soon now.

By the way, its best to check oil at least once a month in all vehicles (except Tesla's).

Aloha, HT
