So running on the principal that everything comes with a cost. What's the downside to using the Phoenix as opposed to the stock unit as far as functionality. I'm looking for an upgraded OEM experience not something that I will have to sacrifice cell phone quality or bluetooth. I can't speak from experience, but I am curious about what's not quite right.

i have no issues using bluetooth or cell phone it still connect to sync so should act same as factory unit

I downloaded one of those skins, or loader, whatever they are called a few weeks ago. I notice when I don't open the loader and just try to go from Sync to Youtube or whatever from the Phoenix app button, the sound won't switch all the time. If I go to Phoenix apps and open the loader and then tap Youtube, which I put in the loader page, from there, it works every time.

This is what I discovered tonight . Now if i could only get the loader to LOAD AT STARTUP!!!

Biggest issues I have:
-You lose GPS function through sync, so no google maps or Apple maps while iPhone is connected, bug in code makes GPS non functional, you have to use Waze through the tablet which works well but I notice after 2-3 hours of use (eg. On a long road trip) waze stops working and the truck needs to be powered off and back on to reset waze.
-screen is black if you wear polarized sunglasses

Installed the unit and everything works with reference to what others have said here. I don’t have any programs installed except CarWebGuru, of which I’m still learning about. I have the 802 package and all functions seem to be operating properly I’m still messing with the settings and such to better familiar myself with the features.
I did not install the provided gps antenna, or the speaker & microphone.

I also called PhoenixAndroidRadios to have them send me an update, I’ve tried the ones provided here and I get a ‘Error’ when attempting the update.

Anyway....so far so good

I’m curious how your factory nav behaves without the tablet gps antenna. Or Apple Maps nav if you have an iPhone.

Currently using Waze, no issues....I’ll try the factory nav and let you know.
Waze through your phone or tablet? Waze through the tablet seems to work for the most part although today I was pulling my hair out because it was so laggy and kept conking up with connection errors.
The issue is problems with any nav (factory, google maps, Apple maps, etc) on the iPhone connected through sync, they are all messed up.

I really like the overall look and concept of this unit, but after reading every single post in this thread there is no way I could see myself purchasing one at any price. Heck if they were giving them away I wouldn't get one. I could never deal with all the issues and glitches that just about everyone who purchased one of these has had. A true "plug and play" should be seamless and should function like it was factory installed with no issues. Either Phoenix rushed this thing out there before it was ready or they just didn't expect the volume of orders. The company seems to have no clue of how to market a successful product. I don't understand all the nuiances of these types of technical issues because I'm not that tech savvy, but I do know if one of these units ever comes out and all you have to do is install it and it will run like Ford put it in at their factory, then I'm in!

I noticed that the factory “brain” is installed 180 degrees ( turned upside down) from how ford factory has it installed.

Could this be why we are all having navigation issues?

I tried to find a way to install it in the factory orientation but it can’t be mounted because of the short jumper cable. The blue and yellow cable.

I keep seeing DVR as a feature of this unit, does that mean it dvrs the forward and backup cams?

Also for those that want a physical volume knob they make small USB volume knobs that will most likely work.
