Yep those are the gen 1 coils and they don't really rub so much as make contact at full droop. Its not a binding, just a resting of the uca on the spring. The gen 2s are not even close to fitting correctly due to increased center bulge in the barrel.

I did the passenger strut last night to finish up. Swapped the entire side in a little over an hour, total breeze this time. Took it out to a terraced field to pop up the front end a few times in 4H. Nothing broke and I don't expect it to, but I guess time will tell. Ride is pristine. I won't be back to those shit-box 2.5s. I'll lose my mind and pay the $2500 on the dsc's or I'll trade it off. On mixed terrain is where it really shines, bombing over curbs in the roundabout, bridge transitions, taking train tracks at 60. No listing on rutty highways or tire hop on the interstate flyovers. Completely mutes highway chop. My 2.5s were pretty much done so your mileage may vary on depending on wheels and tires. To me the difference is night and day. As with literally everything you take out of OEM spec, there is added risk and definitely not for everyone.

10/10 would do again.

Anyone think running gen 2s our back and aftermarket 3.0s up front worth it? Saving $1900...?

Also, so after reading up for someone that no longer has time to do hard core off-roading and the truck only sees slow motion beach travel once in a blue moon this seems perfectly fine, correct?

I saw on craigslist someone was selling gen 2 fronts that had a machine shop cut lower spring perches on the shock body. Is this a solution to limiting straps and CV destruction? It doesnt seem that simple to me. If it were why is he selling them?

Pretty good question there....

I’ve done a lot of research on this swap, and every tech I’ve talked to thinks it’s a terrible idea. Maybe some guys have done it and not busted up their axles (yet).

I dunno based on this video either A the shaft has to be shortened somehow, maybe aftermarket company or fox themselves can help out by fabricating a shorter shaft or the body has to be shortened which some extremely talented and at the same time crazy guy did by cutting down the shock body to our length and welding it back together.
Both of these options prolly really mess with the shocks performance and since we have had no reports of CV or general suspension destruction yet, 5 years in chicago winters has obliterated these 2.5s and 50k seems to be its end cause I'm at 60k and they are beyond bad leaking clunky death trap over RR tracks at speed, plus I have other projects going on like a house addition (wish it was a taller garage with lift but I have the final say in this house...."yes dear"). I will also report back with my findings and if the 3.0s are bad well the plastic will come out for the DSCs I guess.
I've been searching for used 3.0s for years and can never find them and when I do they want astronomical amounts for them. In comparison I found $9k moton 3 ways for my M3 all 4 corners for $1500. And they were basically new $300 to bring them to like new order. $1500 is just for a used rear icon set on this truck doh!

Easiest and best solution is to put a shim (1 to 1 1/2 inch) here to limit down stroke

Next alt solution is to modify the hat mounting bearing "upwards" that same amount
