Dude... if Gen3 has a V8 among other improvements, then Gen2 owners will just trade in or sell the Gen2 for Gen3 (if they are interested). There is nothing to be mad about. Gen3 probably won't get here till 2021 or 2022.

Ford announced a new 7.3 gas motor to replace the 6.2... I thought it was going to be a 7.0. The article I read said this new motor will also be a pushrod motor; not OHC. Any more insight?

that 7L rumor mill is just that.. a rumor.

I wish Ford would let someone.... ANYONE set the record straight on the bs.

Really? Motor Authority is a reputable automotive news outlet.

Kid you linked TFLcar not motor authority, and they're not the same company. gtfoh.

Reliability is high on my list.... and many gen 2 owners are getting to this point too. That is why the 7.3 is welcomed.

That’s why the Ecoboost is the best engine choice for the Raptor. as posts calling for --actual-- first person only reports of faults shows ~ less than 2% of 17+ models with serious problems. Yeah, they have high post counts because failures are sensational, but the actual counts are very low.

Your preferred narrative is a lie, it always has been, because you and your other personalities live in a fantasy land divorced from reality. In the real world where the rest of us live, there’s no need to go to another engine platform for the Raptor.

yet another opinion piece that's no different than TFLcar. you may scour the internet for nothing more than rumor mill bs, the rest of us don't waist our time on what ifs.

Oh we saw your alternate reality delusions, but we just know you have nothing by way of reliable information. Reliability is important to Raptor owners. That’s why anything posted by the notorious liar and troll kid icarus - really sasquatch77 is just easily debunked by actual facts.

Why would 17-19 raptor owners be angry? There is nothing wrong with the 3.5 EB in those trucks. Ford made a design choice. That choice makes the Gen 1's look old and under powered in every single metric.

In regards to that "V8 Sound". Most of the people who can actually afford a $70k truck, are not 20 year old kids, and exhaust sound is so far down on the list of important things.

Just like the Gen 2 is far better than the Gen 1, it would be expected for Ford to make a Gen 3 that is better than the Gen 2. If they didn't, then the entire truck culture should be concerned that innovation is dead.

So go back to mommy and daddy and ask them to give you some money for your precious V8. If that make YOU happy, great. I could give a rats ass about it.

You are a very angry person. Chill out dude. All Raptors are great. For me I prefer the V8 sound. They sound better than a neighbors rice wagon 6.

That’s why the Ecoboost is the best engine choice for the Raptor.

Sure the overall failure rate IS low, like all current powertrains, but a twin turbo gasoline direct injected engine is NOT reliable compared to port injected N/A engines. Don't kid yourself. Yes, they are powerful and great to own while under warranty, but run it to 150K at you'll be replacing turbos, oil lines, coolant lines, blow off valves- things that simply don't exist on the N/A engine.

That's just comparing it to the still relatively complex 6.2L 2V OHC engine or 5.0L 4V OHC engine. If you compare the EB engine (or 6.2 or 5.0) to a cam-in-block 7.3L setup that doesn't have a mile long timing chain to stretch and a bunch of chain tensioners to fail, it looks even worse for the EB (or 6.2 or 5.0). Given it's new clean sheet design and overall simplicity, the new 7.3L engine will be the most reliable gas engine Ford has ever built, by far.

In all honesty- do you really think a 3.5L Ecoboost GTDI engine would be more reliable than a 7.3L port injected N/A engine?

I don’t disagree with any of your points, and I agree that from the marketing hype their new 7.3 has a good deal of potential for reliability. So assuming they don’t cheap out on components, put it together well it should show well. It should also have really good torque and with a 10 speed behind it, the trucks equipped with it ought to be able to get out of their own way quite nicely.

But it will be heavy. I’ll be interested to see how it will compare in weight.

Still, right now, it’s vaporware, and it’s not even being seriously talked about for the Raptor by anyone except sasquatch77.
Now, even a stopped clock is right twice per day, but good ol’ kid ignoramus’s clock seems to be stuck on zero dumb thirty.

Nothing’s impossible. the 5.4 made into the Mustang Cobra R, but that was a while back.

No sense in trying to talk the ecoboost fanboys into the 7.3L. They are so blinded and drank the Kool aid. Real world, the ecoboost is an unreliable mess. The 6.2 never had these silly, repeatable issues with cam phaser failures, plastic oil pan cracks/leaks, low oil pressure, low oil, etc. In what world is this ecoboost ok?
