Hey All,

I've been having this ongoing issue with my Morimoto Elite XB55 kit that I'm using with my retrofitted headlights. Was wondering if any of you had had similar issues and any solutions.

Issue:
Bulbs flicker heavily on startup for a few seconds, and often one bulb no longer fires or sometimes both do not fire. I was left stranded once because the bulbs both died and wouldn't start back up.

Occurrence:
This only happens if I leave the headlights on auto and I turn on the truck. Additionally, if I turn on the truck and then turn the headlights to the on position within 10 seconds, then it happens. It seems that I am not able to turn the headlights on while the truck is powering all accessories.

My current solution:
If the bulbs do not fire, I cycle the headlights off and on, and then they fire up. Other solution is turning on the truck, and waiting 10 seconds until all accessories are on. Then turn on the headlights and they work fine.

What I have replaced so far:
- Wiring harness
- Ballast
- Ignitor

Before I replaced all those parts, I was left stranded without headlights on my drive home one night because the wiring harness fried after cycling the lights. I thought it was a bad ballast so I had everything replaced, reinstalled, and double checked the power and ground wires. This issue is happening again, and I do not want to be stuck without lights.

After speaking with The Retrofit Source and other friends, this is not something that should be happening. However, after hours of researching, I still do not know what is wrong. Any help would be appreciated to figure out why this is happening.

Thanks all!

I have the same issue and it only does it sporadically. After talking to raptor retrofit they said it’s a common problem caused by the auto on function. Only way to fix it is to do what you’re doing. Generally turning them off and then on will fix the flickering or the one bulb out issue. It’s worked for me pretty consistently except when i remote start my truck. Sometimes one bulb won’t turn on even after cycling it. So i have to turn off the truck and start it again. Kind of a pain but still better than halogens. You may also want to check your grounds. I extended all mine to attach directly to the battery

Thanks for your feedback! Good to know I'm not alone. I've moved my grounds around a few times. So far I haven't had much of an issue anymore. I do not use the auto function at all, and I always wait about 10 seconds before I turn my headlights on. So far so good.

I ready another thread on a random forum that the XB bulbs themselves were causing all the flickering issues. The guy upgraded to a set of 6000k Philips D2S bulbs and his issue went away. One of my XB bulbs is now turning quite yellow (no idea why), so may just splurge on so Philips.

This whole thing has been quite frustrating, but they are WAY better than halogens. Now that I got used to the extra steps, I don't care much anymore.

Also if you bought them from TRS the bulbs and ballasts have a 1 year warranty. I had a ballast go out after a few months and they sent me a new one.

Already had a ballast and ignitor replaced through the warranty... I'll try and get the bulbs replaced.

My retro’s are 6 years old. Morimoto 55 watt ballasts work perfectly on Auto. But I did upgrade the ballasts from the originals with several tiny pins to the new large spade ballasts about 4 years ago. My retro uses a Morimoto harness as well but I’ve had CBI’s since beginning and went to CBB’s last year.

Interesting... No idea what's up with mine. Replaced the harness, ballast, ignitor, and made sure my grounds were in the correct spot. Only thing left to change is the bulbs, which I may do eventually. So far not being able to use the Auto function will just have to do.

I have had my RaptorRetroFits since 2015. Placed the selector to AutoLamps. I occasionally had an issue of only 1 HID coming ON. I would cycle the Headlight switch to OFF then ON again and BOTH HIDs would fire ON.

It's been raining alot lately in California. My RaptorRetrofits malfunctioned where the HIDs wouldn't shutOFF. They would stay ON. After diagnosing and taking it to the local place where I had it installed, I ordered a NEW Harness from Dawson/ RaptorRetrofit which includes the Morimoto MotoControl. I should receive the harness by Friday and will install it Saturday. So I've been unplugging the fuse to the HID's if I don't drive the truck. Hopefully it's just the Harness / Motocontrol unit.

I agree the factory OEM HID's are crap.
