My tech basically said he’s been doing cam phasers for five months straight. It’s a nasty, busy job.

Almost certainly the previous gen ecoboost, because if that statement were true and it was inclusive of the ‘17+ ecoboosts, then none of us would be driving our ‘17+ Raptors now, would we?

Unfortunately no. Quite a few Raptors in the area and not just phasers. Apparently the turbos have some issues with coolant and oil leaks as well.

.02 of suggestion, if Ford covers the phasers throw some extra in for new chains and tensioners, the tensioners are also revised and obviously more stout. His best guess I’ll be back in the front of this engine 100k from now.

I’m sure the whole model line has the issues he’s describing, but his perspective just isn’t reality. Or, again, nobody on FRF with a Gen 2 would be driving now, would they?

still if they are revising the part, it would help to have the “new” part numbers.

Not sure which one is intake vs exhaust. Also new valve covers with redesigned ducting and the seals were improved. The Raptor also varies from conventional Gen2 3.5s in that it has electric auxiliary water pump, just thought I’d throw a fresh bone out there.

Before replacement

You can see how close the intake and valve cover seals are to one another. Some speculate that under certain conditions oil would slip past both seals.

Back when the first gen ecoboost came out the 11 and 12 models had some issues with chains and phasers that were said to be caused by too long oil change interval and the ones changed at 5000 were lasting the longest. Heck some were going well past 200000 miles while others were done at 50000. I remember this specifically when my last truck was purchased back in 13 so I ended up with the coyote and had no issues with the V8. My new 18 Raptor will have its oil changed much more frequently than the recommended 10 thou that's for sure.

Yep, mine gets new full synthetic every 5k miles. In any highly stressed engine (like ALL Ford Performance ecoboost) it pays to be more diligent in the routine maintenance. If you're put off by the tiny increase in annual cost, you should buy a little cheap car and forget highly stressed high performance vehicles.

I had my oil analyzed too, and mine had no comments about high lead. interesting your viscosity was 5w30. I have a sample being done now for the latest change and I’ll check that one too.

I think 5k is probably not necessary, but even with what the analysis is telling me, I still have a hard time every mile over about 7k.
