Id be really curious to hear the cause after a tear down. Who knows, might be something insurance would cover(water sucked up)

Whats a quality rebuild cost on these?

Engine hydrolocked??

Did you go through some deep water or too fast through something over 30”?

All the coolant went into the crankcase. Internal failure of the head gasket dumped the coolant through the 8th cylinder....

Gotcha. That was my next question about the head gasket. I have 71k miles on mine and just had the head gasket replaced on the drivers side. Luckily I have a Ford ESP warranty for 7yrs/125k. Did it happen all of sudden or were you experiencing a gradual loss of coolant?

All at once. No warning, no leaks. I had the same warranty, or "ethos" or whatever they called it, but ran out at 65k. They sure timed that one right.

You can pick up used engines from u pull it yards for $300. Probably end up with a Superduty engine with less aggressive cams, but you can swap you heads and timing components over if you want. Put some new head gaskets in there while you are at it. $1000 should cover labor to swap it out at a private mechanic shop. It's an easy swap, there is plenty of room in the engine bay and it's a easy engine to work on since it's a modern design.
