I recently purchased my 2012 Raptor and I have already updated my sync system, and now I am looking into upgrading my navigation. I currently have map version 4.1x , which was released in 2011 or 2012 I believe but I am not sure. The cost purchasing the discs to upgrade is 149 + about 15 bucks shipping. I know a lot has changed regarding the maps in the last 7 years, but overall is it worth spending the 165 bucks? The most up to date version that ford offers for purchase is V10.0x...Any info is appreciated. Thanks

The A9 SD card is the latest update that I've found. I just picked up a bulk-packed card, with full warranty, on eBay for $42.50, shipped.

I dont think the 2012 models can take the SD in that there is no SD slot for them...so therefore I had to get the disks. From what I've read on other threads, 2013 and newer can use SD card, but everything before that have to use disks.

Curious, will the Sd cards work with a card reader through the usb jack? Anyone tried it on older sync systems?

How did you update Sync? Sorry, I'm kind of a Luddite.

Update SYNC2 or update the Navigation maps? Updates to SYNC are available through the ford owners site:

https://owner.ford.com

Download the SYNC update (it seems to be VIN specific), the latest and likely the last is v3.10. Copy only the three following folders/files to your FAT32 formatted jump-drive:

SyncMyRide folder
autoinstall.lst
DONTINDX.MSA

I found that if there is ANY other file on the drive, installation will fail. The file name format will be something like EA5T-14D544-BA. It will retain your Raptor flash (which was an issue with earlier updates). The only remedial after-action I've found was I had to pair my cell phone again. Other than that - it's worked fine.

That was an interesting observation that it might be possible to connect an SD drive via the USB port and update the navigation maps that way. There is a precaution on the SYNC update file that you need nav version A3 or better.
