What is the proper diff fluid to use?

Motorcraft® SAE 75W-85 Premium Synthetic Hypoid
Gear Lubricant
5.5 pints

The new diff cover takes more oil even at the lower fill hole. Buy +1 quarts than manual so you don't have to run back to parts store like I did.

Also, I did not run the Motorcraft 75W-85 as it is hard to find locally except at dealer and it is relatively expensive there. So I used Royal Purple 75W-90. Max Gear Synthetic Gear Oil for Max Protection | Royal Purple

It's a secret hidden in your glovebox....it even tells you how much. And for a bonus, how often depending on driving habits/conditions!

Oh I don't know if someone mentioned this but those of you not used to using a draining diff, NEVER remove the drain plug before you remove the fill plug when changing the gear oil, fill plug removed first, always....unless you like risk, have a spare diff cover, like to make a mess and have extra time.

A seized fill plug can make a 5 minute job a 30 minute job or worse, leave you sitting there with a drained diff and a cover your can't fill.

I decided to pick up the ford performance differential cover from CJ pony parts. $209 shipped with their 5% off code (5off). Their installation video was worth a watch. It will hold more fluid if your truck is lifted in the front with collars.
