Do tunes void the warranty? What are the neggative affects of a tuner?

Depends on your dealer really.........tunes void your warranty from Ford, but the dealer still has the option to offer you a warranty, just like some dealers sell lifted, lowered, or performance modified new cars and trucks. There is no way in hell Ford would warranty that stuff, but your dealership might, especially if they sell it.

As far as negative affects of a tuner, your looks at more abuse and permature wear and tear simply because you are "upping" the output of your motor and tranny, however, if you use your head a truck running a tuner can last just as long as a stock truck.......FYI a properly tuned tranny with firm shifts will always last longer than stock

Yes your dealership might back up Superchips, but you'll have to ask.......my dealership does not, but is cool enough to know that if my powersteering goes it has nothing to do with the tune in the truck..........after knowing what I know now, I will never, ever, ever, ever run a canned tune again.......custom tunes all the way :naughty:

Dont you have a JDM can? Dont like it? For me the best thing about a custom tune is having a dyno sheet to prove they did more than turn up the idle and mess around with the throttle mapping

Its not really a can tune per-say, I mean you have to fill out a whole sheet with info on your truck and tell them what your elevation and where/how you drive the truck.........while its not a total one off custom dyno tune, its better than a blanket tune that covers all year models.....

I do, however, have a one off custom tune with traction control totally turned off. It needs some tweaking but once that gets worked out its going to be a bad bitch

How did you do a second tune?

The SCT hand held unit can hold up to three different tunes at one time I believe, to upload the tunes to the unit is as simple as downloading an email from the performance shop, like JDM, then uploading with your computer to the hand held unit using SCT software.......its actually very very easy

I watched Julian download both of his tunes into the truck to test them because I'd never actually seen someone load a tune before. I was pretty surprised by how quickly and smoothly the process went. He plugged the tuner into a port underneath the steering wheel, made a selection on the tuner's handheld screen, and BOOM! -as he likes to say- the rest was smooth sailing from there.

For each tune, it only took about the time for us to drink 3 beers and throw the football around for the file to load.
