@AdamsPolishes.

I know this has probably been covered numerous times on here, so I apologize in advance for a redundant question.

We have had a lot of rain this year and my non garaged cars have taken a beating that they have never seen, since they've lived most of their lives without weather. I am seeing hazing and holograms in the paint that I know that will be difficult and time consuming to remove by hand.

Right now we get a few days of nice weather followed by a few days of rain, and it will probably keep up that way for another month or so.

I need to invest in a machine polisher. Can you let me know what you recommend and what exact pads and polishes I would need?

I really appreciate it.

No need to apologize for any question! In fact, your question is very timely with the recent release of our Swirl Killer MINI 12mm LT Polisher which uses 3.5"-4" pads to complement the Swirl Killer 15mm LT Polisher which uses 5.5"-6" pads.

The larger machine is used for the primary polishing, then the smaller machine is used to get into the tighter areas.

There are a couple of different polishing kits available, depending on what else you might need for the task like clay or Detail Spray.

Kits to get just the machines, pads and polishes are:

Swirl Killer 15mm & 12mm Combo

Complete 5.5" Pad & Polish Combo

4" Double Foam Pad Kit

If you also need clay, Detail Spray and towels, then you could go with:

Three Step Swirl Killer 15mm Complete Polishing Kit

Swirl Killer MINI 12mm LT Polisher

4" Double Foam Pad Kit

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Dan,

I plan on getting just the larger machine, would be nice to have both. But the mini something I could always add later if I needed it. Other than the pads and polishes I have everything else of Adams, clay detail spray etc. So will start with the 3 pads and polishes with cleaning brush kit, plus a gray and a red pad since I have your sealant and glaze.

How long do these foam pads last? Do the pads ever need to be cleaned and if so how often?

Yes, as Wilson stated, the pads have to be cleaned well after each use. You do not want any product left in the pads for next time. You can use All Purpose Cleaner or Microfiber Revitalizer & Brightener.

If properly taken care of, washed well and allow to air dry completely, then stored in a container like a lidded tote, the pads will last a good while. Since polishing pads get the most use, and the foam is subject to abrasives, you can expect polishing about 5-6 vehicles with one set. This is approximate, since there are variables like the condition of the paint and how long you have to polish to get the defects corrected.

Pads like the gray and red can last years, since they get light use only being used to spread out enhancement products like glaze, wax and sealant.

Dan,

When I go to detail my vehicles after driving in all this rain, I'm thinking they may have possibly picked up iron particles off the roads. Before I use the clay it probably wouldn't hurt to spray the sides with wheel cleaner. Should it be diluted with water or applied full strength? May not need it, but it can't hurt I'm thinking.

Thanks

I have not heard anything about the next sale, but will check again.

For the iron decon on the paint, I would suggest trying a small test section on the rear quarter panel to see if you get a color reaction, so you will know if there is actually bonded brake dust that needs to be removed.

After your wash, just spray a small area with Wheel Cleaner to see if it starts to turn purple. Go ahead with the full-strength product, rather than diluting it since it will have better cling time undiluted. Just make sure the paint is cool, in the shade, and DO NOT let the product dry before rinsing well.
