i broke a tie rod once.. luckily a friend had spares. i went off trail and hit a massive rock. anything can happen and tie rods are shaped well enough you can carry spares without much issue.

Tie rods if you only had room for one type of part are definitely the way to go. Anything else that could break would either be too large, too rare to actually happen, too expensive, or too difficult to change on the trail anyway. Also it’s one of the only parts that could leave you completely stranded.

what was it... abs & wheel speed sensors that get walloped by strewn rocks and debris, and take away the drive modes?

Yes. If you kill abs/wheel sensor the truck throws a massive hissy fit.
If you have electronic parking brake, that will kill a few things Also.

Doesn't seem to kill terrain management (drive modes). But does kill cruise control at least. Happened again to me yesterday.

Always seems to be drivers side, I need to make me a shield. 4 times in a year.
