Catastrophic engine failure, what would you do?

Long story short, I traded the truck and put it behind me. I’ll never know what was actually wrong, but I have doubts that it was anything near a complete failure.

Catastrophic engine failure, what would you do?

The irony of that post made me chuckle. Another reason for my honesty, I am in charge of acquiring fleet vehicles for our company, the dealer stands to gain or subsequently loose a fair amount of business from how they treat me. With that being said, the dealer I initially left the truck with...

Catastrophic engine failure, what would you do?

Yes. To better explain the nature of the situation, I was on a waiting list (at my normal dealer) for a Bullitt since they were first announced. I was recently informed that “the owner” of the dealer wanted it for himself, I believe in the reality he’s planning on selling it 10k over MSRP, as...

Catastrophic engine failure, what would you do?

The subject is where should I go from here, is that not worth asking? Besides, I’d wager that “2k here and 2k there” is relevant to most people... especially those who recently made a large purchase for their father, a gift long time coming and not an impulse buy. My apologies if I gave the...

Catastrophic engine failure, what would you do?

That makes a lot of sense. You never know I could have gotten some bad gas and like you said, if timing didn’t retard then with the extreme additional force of knock it spun a rod bearing. And thank you, although 13K feels like it might have been worth more than my dignity right now! Haha

Catastrophic engine failure, what would you do?

While I agree with what you’re saying, let me play devils advicate against you and myself; Hi, I’m Ford. We engineered the Ecoboost bearings and lubrication system to handle X pressure exerted, which happens to align with generating 450hp. Your tune added 1hp, which caused premature failure as...

Catastrophic engine failure, what would you do?

Thank you, but after buying the Bullitt... I wouldn't say I have cash burning a hole in my pocket. I'm not blaming anyone but myself for my current situation.

Catastrophic engine failure, what would you do?

Looks like a long block to me? Even without turbos, not a bad deal...

Catastrophic engine failure, what would you do?

Looked into that option, quoted 11k (without intercooler, probably just blow it out with compressed air)... I might as well have the dealer do it for 13k.

Catastrophic engine failure, what would you do?

Dealer is dropping oil pan to inspect, cost to do that is $763. As-is trade in 37k. I’d have to come up with a good chunk of money to pay the truck off. Right now waiting for an update on actual problem before getting a second opinion.

Catastrophic engine failure, what would you do?

I’m definitely leaning that way, I just don’t wanna get bent. I should see some numbers soon here....

Catastrophic engine failure, what would you do?

I don’t disagree, I’m not ruling out that option. I literally gave my truck to service and walked into sales and bought a 2019 Bullitt, so I have some faith that they’ll work with me here.

Catastrophic engine failure, what would you do?

Exactly my sentiment, you know if I ran it hard or did something stupid to it then I’d blame myself... but I’m anal retentive, I had the dealer change the oil at 1,100 miles cause I figure that way every fine metal particle from the break in would be flushed. I babied this thing, I’ve lost what...

Catastrophic engine failure, what would you do?

Got off the phone with Livernois, one of their issues is parts availability. So say it spun a bearing, they can’t buy a crank (I thought you could weld-up and machine a crank back to specs?) so they would have to buy a complete short block from Ford and build it from there. Cost with labor...

Catastrophic engine failure, what would you do?

One can dream right? I fear electrical gremlins in performing such a swap, my truck already has multiple electrical issues.

Catastrophic engine failure, what would you do?

Yes of course, but they're arguing that 5 star tune = no warranty. I haven't made a counter argument yet.

Catastrophic engine failure, what would you do?

I'm hesitant to even post this, but here goes. My 2017 with 34k miles has intake, catch can, downpipes, 5 star '91 daily' tune and NOT ABUSED was making a slight diesel sound between 1500-2500 rpms for a minute and then low oil pressure warning. Uh-oh. Luckily I was within eyesight of a Ford...

I thought the Kooks side exit were still in production (as in unavailable), but I would be interested in hearing them for sure...

Kooks high flow GREEN catted down pipes installed!!

Keep in mind I take it easy, I'm a clean/anti-seize/lock-tite/torque-down kinda goofball. I had to get a real stud remover (a must have item available at most auto parts) and a bottle of map gas (too scared of melting wires with a real oxy/ace torch) so if you had those on hand, a helper for...

Kooks high flow GREEN catted down pipes installed!!

Order placed, maybe instead of 8 hours like the first time I can get the Kooks installed in 6 since I know what I'm getting into now.

Kooks high flow GREEN catted down pipes installed!!

Do they hang below the transmission cross member? My SW cat-less hang down 3/4-1", which in my mind is not acceptable as the first time I hit bottom out on anything it's taking out the exhaust and probably damaging the turbos/headers. Because of that, I'm considering switching to Kooks.

    Tune plus downpipes, worth it??

Do they hang below the transmission cross member?

    Tune plus downpipes, worth it??

Yes and yes... although not dramatic by any means. Maybe 10-15hp, maybe. I started with an aFe Rebel side exit exhaust, it was loud and aggressive. Then after DPs it became ridiculous, it was soo loud that the interior door panels were rattling! You literally couldn't hold a conversation inside...
