2023 Torsen?

Did some more testing... definitely 100% open differential in the front.


I minutely adjusted the front jack so that maximum pressure from the "worse traction" tire would drag to try to activate the Torsen if their was one. I left some tire on my driveway.

Also, no matter what setting, speed or drive mode I were in, I could not get my truck to squeeze the brake caliper on the wheel(s) with no traction to shift power. I think Ford is BS'ing about this traction management being better than a Torsen. I saw exactly zero traction management.

As the truck comes from factory, any cross-axle terrain (happens more than you'd think) means you have zero wheel drive with rear locker not locked, and one wheel drive with rear diff locked. Add an incline and going to be a lot of winching required.

Regardless, looks like putting in a locker up front is my only option. I just wonder what that would do to my warranty.

The droop/stuff articulation capability is really impressive in the rear, as to be expected with a solid axle. The front, not so much.

Ya I'm familiar with those above. That's why I put the opposite tire from the planted front tire in partial contact with the ground, to create the friction needed, in addition to light brake pedal to see if I could get the planted wheel to provide forward momentum. It didn't.


I do find it funny how Ford goes on and on about how great the Torsen makes the Raptor in that article above, then they delete it off all trucks in 2023.

Might be worth a call to ford performance tomorrow? See if they will confirm/deny?

After looking again your diff cover does look different, unless it's just an angle. I still am hopeful the 23s have it - not doubting your video but Torsen operation is different and in this application specifically designed for higher speed desert running (not sure what the torque ratio is again), so I'm not expecting it to look like a locking diff at slow speeds on a stands.

Hopefully someone can snap a pic of their 21 or 22 diff and just compare. If it looks the same I would still bet it is there but who knows.

They look the same to me. Even the same S-988-K part number.

Hope this isn't true. I thought when they dropped the lower trim level that the torsen just became standard. If it is true, I'm more than a little disappointed...

So I went to the build and price website and built a raptor. No mention of torsen differential or option to choose one. Built a tremor and it is a option and when you click on the info button for the torsen differential it says available on tremor , period. Ironically it showed a raptor on the info page. Open front diff it is for 2023 raptors. This will be my last raptor. I'm tired of being FUCKXED! by ford.What a disappointment. They could at least offer it as an option for the V6 raptor.

Yeah that's disappointing with my 2023 order in. Honestly though, i could do without the torque steer, 4A should have plenty of traction on the road without it. If a Torsen doesn't really help with a tire in the air, then what's the point. Id just install a ARB or elocker of some sort and be done with it. What I'm more curious about is, the traction management. Do only the off road modes apply brakes? I could see normal mode not having a lot of front axle traction management.
