So got my shocks delivered this week, and got the two rear shock on just fine! So Gen 2 rear OE shocks fit on Gen 1 just fine, although you will notice in my pics that they sent me 2 pass rear shocks. This doesn't hurt anything, just hides the fox stickers on the one side. I didn't even have to lift the truck, just used ratchet straps to compress the shocks and all better.
I still have to try the fronts, I'm a bit scared so far but this is good news for all of us 1st gen guys looking to save some money buying the gen 2 or shocks. This was $1400 for all 4 shocks, brand new, from Athens ford on EBay! Already saved money just on the tears!

From the look of that pic, you may bottom that shock out on full squish.

You didnít get two passenger rears, gen 2 has them mounted one facing forward one back. Not sure I like that set up. Looks like travel is maxed with that configuration.

Shows how much I know about the gen 2, didn't even know shocks were forward and back! Well cool! Though about the travel as being maxed, not sure what you mean there, as in shocks have more travel available then the suspension accommodates or if that the shocks are partially closed due to the longer length, and may be more likely to bottom out under heavy jumps. Either can be addressed with spring modification/upgrade if need be.
Just trying to see what could work, and make mistakes other people may not be able to afford to make, so hopefully they can learn from mine

i think youll be ok with stock bumpstops, but if you decide to add an aftermarket bumpstop, they usually give 2-3" of extra bump travel.

hard to tell in your pic, but how much longer is the shock body compared to gen 1 shock? about 1"?

Much appreciated, I'll be keeping a close eye on this thread, 3.0's under $1500 is damn sure appealing, with the possibility of finding good takeoffs under a grand even moreso.

My $0.02; from what little I can see from Gen2 pics, it looks like the lower a-arms (LCA's) may have the lower shock mounting point shifted outboard, as well as maybe a different knuckle. They gained, what, about 2" of travel front and rear? How much of that can we gain with aftermarket upper a-arms (UCA's)? Would stock Gen2 UCA's fit and accomplish this? Or would it take knuckles and LCA's too? If so would they bolt right up? I'm guessing that's a distinct possibility as they didn't re-invent the wheel or anything, but at the same time they might differ just enough not to work without modification...

Before you installed the rears, did you fully compress the shocks to get the collapsed length?
It appears that the 3.0 is 3/4 to 1 inch longer in free length, would be a bonus if they are the same length compressed.. Gain a little travel if it is.
