Obviously the frame bending is due to the suspension bottoming out on the factory bump stops.

Besides the frame strengthening options which may help to prevent frame damage depending on the impact, there are other options.

One such option are bump stops - these are from Fox (of all companies :) )...

Here are some massive units from King

King bump stops are made from the same quality materials and precision machined components that are used in our performance racing shocks. The precision fit of the components, our unique piston design, the proven valving configuration and our advanced seal technology combine to create a durable, superior performing bump stop that generates maximum damping forces.Link: King Shocks 2.0″ Bump Stops « King Off-Road Bump Stops : kingshocks.com

5. Aluminum components are machined from aircraft quality billet.

2. Double sealed Schrader cover that mounts to the body, not the valve itself creates a positive seal and keeps dirt and moisture out.

6. Large 1-1/4" or 1-5/8" diameter shafts have a minimum tensile strength of 75,000 pounds per square inch. They are hard chromed and micro-polished to a 6 RA finish for extended seal life.

3. Unique mounting boss design with indexing pin securely locates the bump stop without pinching the outside of the tube.

7. Long wearing nylon contact pad insures quiet operation and mounts with a simple yet effective single bolt design.

4. Stout 1/8" thick Chromoly bump stop bodies are precision bored to within +/- .001, then honed after cadmium plating to remove buildup for a tight piston seal and optimum valving function.

8. O-ring on shaft helps to gauge shaft travel.

Here's SDHQ's factory bump stop alternative:

As you can see they replaced the factory bump stop and their bump stop is attached to a custom cross member that's installed after the box is removed.

I like SDHQ's rear set up but not sure I want to tackle pulling the bed off in order to install the cross member for the bump stops. So I'm thinking about alternatives but not sure if they will work with the SDHQ frame supports?

Will any of these void any type of warranty from the manufacturer? Just curious, obviously nobody wants their frame to bend but for those whose frames have not bent...this is why I ask. I'm all for beefing up a vehicle's capabilities but don't want to void the warranty that I have remaining.

:)

There's no clear answer so, "it depends". Depends on what you've done to the truck, what went wrong with the truck and how warranty-friendly your dealer is.

To install an alternative bump stop you're certainly going to remove the factory unit so that's where the mods start.

Light Racing system. Same or similar to SDHQ.

Installation Instructions

You can check their website for more info and pricing.

Great find! Looks like their system is what SDHQ is offering:

JounceShock™ is Light Racing’s term coined originally for the production application of a device known as a “Bumpshock” in the off-road racing arena. Also known as an “Air Bump Stop”, these devices have been used in off-road racing since the late 80’s, in fact helping to revolutionize the sport as the development of high travel suspensions and position sensitive shocks were initially evolving. While quite effective for off-road racing applications, not much research or characterization had been done until Light Racing began investigating the functional characteristics of the device in the late 90’s.

From their PDF:

The JounceShock system is a secondary suspension system that dramatically increases the capacity of your vehicle’s suspension. Most systems are
designed such that the JounceShocks do not engage the suspension of your vehicle at ride height. Therefore the system does not usually alter theride height or on-road ride quality of your vehicle. When you take your vehicle off-road, and the bumps become larger, your suspension travels moreand contacts the JounceShocks. When the suspension engages the JounceShocks you may hear a dull clunking sound at initial contact. This isnormal and is an indication that the JounceShocks are being engaged. As the vehicle is driven off-road you will notice a couple of performancegains. First, as you drive the vehicle over rough terrain you will notice that it never feels as though the vehicle is bottoming. Second, over mediumto large inputs, you will realize that the vehicle moves up and down less… “Gross Vehicle Motion Control” as it is called. These are changes causedby the characteristic exponential air spring curve and the critical damping of the JounceShock units. These changes significantly enhance the abilityof the vehicle, the durability of the vehicle, and the comfort level of the occupants. This added capacity can be misleading and care should be takento learn the new limits of your vehicle without damage to the vehicle itself.

Voiding a factory warranty on grounds of aftermarket parts is a popular tactic used by dealers to get out of paying for warranty work. So there is always that chance. Also, the bent frame area that is being reported could be a "Frame Rail Crush Point" which is designed to absorb energy during a crash. Bracing this area could lead to more sevier damage during a crash or jumping.

That is what we need right there! The factory bump stop location is weak, most likely due to being either an access port or frame rail crush point. This system seems to relocate the mounting of the bump stop to a much strong area and use beefed up mounts.
