Headlight Differences?

I know the 13's have the projectors but will the earlier model headlights work in place of the projectors? Reason I'm asking: I have a 13 and want to color match the inside of the lamp. This will take some time considering the process. I have a factory set from my 2011 that I could temporarily install until the projectors are finished up. Has anyone tried this? Will it work? Has anyone taken lens covers off the projector lamps?

The main electrical hook up or harness is different. If you mean just for day driving you would be fine. Main headlight assemblies are the same.
