Scan Tool... Does Anybody Use One?

I want to get a diagnostic scan tool for reading codes and live monitoring. In the past I have used an AutoEngiuity computer based OBDII scantool for Ford Diesels, but don't have any experience with live data streaming on gas motors. Is anybody using anything similar or have any experience with any other types of scan tools? How is everybody reading codes and diagnosing problems?

IDS and VCM II is my preferred 'but expensive' scan tool

Not live but a $100.00 harbor frt works fine. Used it yesterday to find a problem in my wifes exploder. Used it several times to fix my 2000 F150.

Love it.
I use both the apps in @KaiserM715 thread. I owed it over Snoball to check codes for @DocSpooK and @Rookie and myself. Easy to use and clear codes and give a lot of other information. Some of it way more that I'll ever need.
Worth the $75 IMO on a modded Raptor.
