The manual will show you a picture to not use the pumpkin but you will also notice that the manual is referencing the stock scissor jack.



That jack is not designed to lift the full rear weight of the truck, it is designed to lift just one corner. If you have a floor jack capable to handle the weight, lifting by the pumpkin is not an issue and done even by a Ford dealership if they are not using a lift. Just make sure and not put the jack pad on the lip of the diff but place it a little forward. Once up use jack stands to take the weight off the jack.

One final question? So I need a 3 TON lift and two 3 TON Jacks to do back or front wheel work? Or do you recommend more lift on a Truck. This is my first Truck, ever, and first vehicle that was not a manual drive.

I have friend who's Dad owned a service station. He sent his son for lunch, and when his son returned with the lunch his Dad was crushed under the car he had been working on.
When working under your truck you can NEVER be TOO safe. Work on a level surface. Chock the wheels. Put on the Emergency brake. Make sure the transmission is in park.
Use the heaviest duty jack you can find to raise the wheel you are working on, and then put supports under the frame. With a 6,000 pound truck the minimum jack stand strength would be 1,500#; stronger is better. If you are off-roading and don't have jack stands, place the spare under the frame.

Those are some beefy stands.

Forget about storing them, just remove the center post and drop in a new post with a seat attached to the top et voila, barstools suitable for the most robust of mother-in-laws.

Those are some nice jack stands, i'm picking a set up....hahah robust they are...

I just picked up a pair of Sunex 10 Ton High jack stands for $199 shipped. I am finally able to get the wheels to fully droop to do maintenance on the suspension. Previously I used some 6 ton HF jackstands with some wood under them (yikes!) and that still didn't work very well.

These jackstands worked amazing and I only had to set them at level 3 to get full droop in the rear. Just wanted to share since this made my day. Now, where the hell am I going to store these things?

Those are nice I was going to ask about floor jacks to lift the raptor when I found this thread. I don't really like using the pumpkin but what about jacking the front ?

Lou, based on your question, I would recommend you have a real mechanic demonstrate how to get your truck in the air. I have had trucks fall of jacks, jack stands and 2 post lifts. Stuff gets Western real quick if you know what I mean. Sometimes you get lucky though.

Thanks but I was just wondering your jack location for picking the front of the truck since the thread was referring to the rear. I haven't tried my floor jack yet but I'm assuming it's not going to be tall enough ?
