I changed the oil about 2500k miles ago to Mobil 1 Full Synthetic. That was on Sept 13, 2011. I'm now at 5400 miles. Oil Life Monitor shows about 66% Oil Life remaining.

What would be the right time to change it again?

- At 3,000 Miles
- April 13, 2012 (6 months)
- At 25% Oil Live Monitor (Mid to Late Summer)

I don't think it really "notices" a difference. That would take a TON of technology and sensors and screenings for the oil to go through. Pretty sure that that engine oil monitor thing runs based on duty cycles (hours) that the engine has been run and wether or not you had a trailer hooked up, since the truck DOES know when there is a trailer (if using the 7-pin connection).

That's just a guess, you know.

I believe the oil life reminder goes by every 5000 miles.

You are completely fine waiting till 7500 with full syn.

Regardless of the time that's passed? That will put me at about a year between oil changes.

Low mileage oil changes should be every 6 months. Condensation can build up inside. My truck will only see about 500 miles a month. I still subscribe to the old school change at 2500-3000 miles. Overkill for certain but cheap insurance.

My process:

1st change at 1,000 miles and convert to Mobil 1.

2nd change at 5,000 miles still using Mobil 1.

all future changes at 5,000 mile intervals (10k, 15k, 20k etc.) using Mobil 1.

While living and working in DC I was only driving about 1,200 miles a year. I changed my oil every six months as was stated above. Growing up I was always told it was 3k or six months, whichever came first (now obviously it would be more like 5k or 7,500, etc..)

The old 3k rule was for conventional dino oil. With a full syntethic you can easily get 5k-7k before changes.

However as some guys have pointed out, its pretty cheap insurance and nothing wrong with doing it more than required.

I'm with Blue I switched over to mobil 1 at 1000 miles and have changed it every 5k. Makes it easier to keep track of 5,10,15,20 etc.
