Diff fluid levels

Hey there guys. I just installed an AFE diff cover and the instructions say about 4.5 qts. How exact does this need to be? I put "about" 4.5 quarts but want to be sure I'm not over or under.

Is there harm done if it's too full? And does anyone know more precisely, how much is supposed to be in there with this cover

All diff covers that I am familiar with are "fill to spill". Fill it up until it just starts to spill out of the fill hole.
