So earlier today I noticed a noticable sound outside of the motor itself somewhere along the belt path. I have dealt with bad bearings before on farm equipment but not on cars and trucks.

Is it safe to drive? I have to get back to school about 2 hours away.

Is it hard to fix? I can do some projects on my own but if it tends to be harder I'll leave it to the people that do it for a living.

Is there a good way to pin point which bearing is bad?

This is a 2013 super crew with 85k miles.

Thanks.

First thing to check is the belt tightner. I've had several go over the years. Grab it and see if there's any side play.

If it goes really bad it will blow up the belt. I carry a spare belt and wrench at all times. A new belt might get you a couple hundred miles or at least out of the pucker brush.

After a real struggle I finally found out how to loosen the belt and without the luxury of a breaker bar went to work on spinning the pulleys freely without completely removing the belt.

This one that I have in the pictures is the culprit.

How complicated and expensive is the fix?

For those having this same issue I'd like to lay out all of what I have learned so that hopefully you will learn it quicker.

This seems like a quality part to switch it out with.

Not our trucks but close enough to be a good guide

its a pretty straight forward job. replace the belt while you are at it since you will be pulling some off anyway. should be just the one bolt.

Update for everyone. It wasn't a bad bearing, my truck was at Ford recently and they left a piece of metal on the top of the motor when they replaced my power steering and put a new belt on. I took it off and replaced the pulley to be safe. Belt seems alright.
