Just curious to see if there are any off roading schools near the Los Angeles area??

I'm about to get my 2017 Ford Raptor delivered. I'm a newbie when it comes to off roading. I'd like to learn it correctly and how to use the full potential of the Raptor. Any schools out there that teach driving techniques, changing tires in sand, navigation and route finding, etc.??

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

I'll join you if you find a good one. I'm in the same boat and I def want to learn. I'm in LA as well. What area of LA are you at?

Or...we can go grab a $7 hot tea at the shipping mall...isn't this what the Raptor was built for?? :-D

@marcomilano77

In April ROC (Raptor Offroad Community) will be doing an off-road run in the Anza Borrego area. Come on out with the group, we'll get you settled in and feeling comfortable behind the wheel :)

Road Adventure Drives

The website should be updated this weekend with the runs for 2017.

I'd love to join you guys and get some miles in the dirt with the new toy. Is it on April 23rd? I saw that date on the website.
Any requirements for the truck or extra equipment needed?
Thank you!
I'll sign up soon

The page currently has our runs from 2016. The runs for 2017 should be up this weekend and I know there is a run for April because I am pre-running the trails in March :)

Required gear:
Hand held or 50 watt VHF Radio*
1 full size spare
Plug Kit (if only carrying 1 spare tire)

Recommended Gear:
50 watt VHF Radio
GPS app or off road GPS Device
2 Spare Tires
Plug Kit
Tow straps
5 gallons of fuel (SCABS for sure, SCREWS recommend, personally I have never filled my 5 Gallon jug and never had to worry about gas on any ROC run)

*For those who are new to off-roading we can make accommodations on radios, we have hand held loaners.

Little more info...

Expectations of participants...

Our trail runs are planned around having fun, seeing sites, and traveling specific amounts of mileage per day / event. This means if you participate, you are aware of the mileages needing to be covered per day and that you are expected to cover them in a reasonable time frame. Our group is NOT a "fly as fast as you can" group, but at the same time we are not a crawler group. We enjoy off roading with all types of trucks/SUVs, therefore the routes and daily mileage requirements are selected with non-modified 4X4 vehicles in mind. By signing up, you understand we ask that when the trail conditions allow, you drive at a safe pace that can allow you to cover the terrain / distance as expected by the group.

MarcoMilano77,
Also try the Ford Racing sponsored "Raptor Assault" in Tooele, Utah. They have several packages and the school is very intensive, covering not only desert high speed but rock climbing, off camber driving, hill descent, left foot braking, etc. You will learn to trust your Raptor and how to push it to it's limits...

They seriously turned me off on this when the mention the likes of John Hennessy.

New 2017 ROC adventures are now up for the whole year on the ROC Page.

Road Adventure Drives

The official name of the ROC Run you want is "Salton Sea Adventure" and it's on April 7th and 8th. I've seen the trail maps and it looks like fun!

I'd like to invite you out for the pre-run but we do this very quickly and spend a lot of time with taking notes and testing. It's more work than fun :)

Seriously though, come out to the April run. You will have a blast in your new Raptor and there are many people who want to see a "Jenny2" out on the trails! You will be one of the first to do so!

IronHorse07,
Never heard a word about Hennessy when I took the course in 2013. It's associated with Ford performance, and run at the former Miller Motorsports Park south west of Salt Lake city...
