I was invited to go on the Idaho Gambler 500 rally this last weekend. I didn't have an appropriate "gambler" rig, but my buddy's hatchet job '86 Cadillac limo was sketchy enough for me to bring the Rappy as a recovery vehicle...
For the un-initiated, a gambler run is a mostly off-road, 500 mile rally over usually 2-3 days. The goal is to complete it in a $500 or less jalopy. Usually, people spend more to make something ridiculous or goofy. Beer is aplenty and so is great scenery.
This year, we went from Boise, ID to Pine, Fairfield, Hailey, then camped in Stanley, ID underneath the beautiful Sawtooth Mountains. The next day we went through the mountains to Cascade Lake, south to Emmett, ID and eventually ended up back in Boise.
I had just installed my rebuilt and upgraded shocks n Friday, and I am very happy with their performance. The Rappy was flawless of course and I did rescue a few wayward junkers. Next year I may get my wife to follow me in the raptor... I have a few ideas already as far as rigs...
