I have driven everthing from korean era army jeep to a 79 corvette on the beach so I know the do's and dont's and how to use tire pressure. I just need to verify the best settings for soft sand to get to a fishing spot. This truck has so many options that I need to here the best combo.

Thanx

I find that in 2012 Raptors it is better in loose conditions (mud, snow, gravel, etc) 4wd hi, offroad mode, locker locked and to leave traction control in "sport mode". This allows the computer to use the abs to stop spinning tire in front and pull the truck.

Why locker locked? Edumicate me...

Without the locker locked, if you have better traction with one of the rear tires the tire with less traction will receive all the power causing it to spin while the other tire will stay stationary. If you lock it, they spin at the same speed no matter the traction conditions.

So basically this video applies to us. We have an open diff, but we can electronically lock it ourselves before we ever get in the situation. Helping us keep momentum to keep moving through the obstacle.

I kind of figured locked,4hi and no traction. What does ORM add to the equasion with these 3 manual settings?

ORM does several things...

It changes the throttle mapping to a more linear curve. Making it a lot easier to throttle steer the truck (power slide), and allowing a smooth application of power to the rear wheel so you do not dig into sand..

It also desensitizes the airbag system from frontal impacts. So if you smack the front side of a whoop or a hard nose first landing the airbags do not deploy. (fyi 45-60mph into a tree or other obstruction will deploy the frontal airbags) The seat side airbags and rollover canopy will still deploy in a side impact, or roll over while in ORM.

ORM also changes the abs to allow latet activation to allow sand/dirt to pile up infront of the tires to help slow down the truck. I personally, have not felt too much difference in the braking. Then ag as in I dont drive in sand.

It also allows your locker to stay locked
