Default Arizona Trails (Flagstaff/Sedona/Prescott)
Hi,

Iím in Sedona as we speak shaking down my new truck.

So far Iíve done the Shnebly Hill Rd kidney buster trail and the very pleasant Perkinsville Rd trail from Jerome to Williams.

Iím going to be in the area for the next ten days and moving forward at least three months a year, including the whole month of June, and I was wondering if you guys can give me some other ideas of trails I can tackle on my own on a day trip from Sedona. Iím pretty new at this so I donít want to get stuck on my own, so nothing too extreme. For more difficult stuff Iím really looking forward to some of the organized local group runs. Alternatively, if anyone is local Iím very happy to do runs together.

So yes, please let me know of any great trails within a day tripís ride from sedona.

One of the oneís that looked appealing is Camp Wood Rd from Baghdad to N Williamson Valley Rd north of Prescott. Has anyone done this segment and can tell me if itís relatively benign or if I should stay away from it?

Thanks a bunch.

SoulSea,
Sign up at Expedition Portal..(ExpeditionPortal.com), and look around for trails/recent trips for ideas.
Do not let on that you own a Raptor until you are comfortable... as there is a definite "anti Raptor" bias. Lot's of great information to be learned there...

Crown king is one that might come up in your search that I don't recommend.

Eek, unfortunately next Sat. (feb 3rd) is the day that I fly back east.

If it's ok I'll shoot you a text and we can do a run when I come back for the month of June.

That depends on where you're going. Did the Senator Highway from Crown King to Prescott and it was a fun trail that wasnt very difficult. I dont think I'd do Crown King to Lake Pleasant in my Raptor,... at least while the paint is still good.

Would that be taking 59 or Bloody Basin Rd off of 17 to Crown King and the Senator Highway to Prescott?

I took Bloody Basin Rd. West off I17 through Cleater to Crown King. It's a wide open road to Crown King, but if you are set up for airing down, it will help. That section is usually washboarded out. When you get to Cleater, check out the yacht club. Good for a rest stop and a good chuckle.
From Crown King to Prescott is the usual single lane dirt road. Fun drive and nice scenery

In June it'll be hot as all hell, head for the rim and higher elevation.

Cinders OHV park (flagstaff)
Bill Williams Mountain Loop Rd (Williams)
United Verde and Pacific railroad grade trail (near Jerome)
Boynton Pass Trail (Sedona)
Dry Creek Rd FR152 to Vultee arch (Sedona)
Cedar flat Rd FR618 to FR214 (near camp verde will be hot in June)
I17 & Munds park Rd east to Lake Mary Rd to FR125 to FR82 Kinnikinick lake*

*Start by taking schnebly hill road UP to the I17, lol.

The back way to crown king isn't very raptor friendly. The reason I say to avoid the area in general at least during peak hours is because it has become more popular/dangerous than normal.
