Drive hunting is the best! Stay warm, 4 wheel a bit, maybe scare something up.
I killed a near B&C when I was 17, so I havent taken a shot at a whitetail buck since then, but I do hunt for meat every chance I get, and take does from time to time. It would have to be a monster for me to bear down at this point. Elk, and other game I will hunt.
Ive walked, rode horses, blind, high seated.... my favorite is high seating, just nice to drink, drive and play with guns....what more can a man ask for?
As for "corning" the roads....I dont look at that as bad....some brush down here in TX you cant get through, so its a good way to figure out what you got on the ranch- and the real monsters wont come out to that anyway. Only hope is the rut to bag the big ones, or walk up on them with the drop.
