Here's what I did with mine when I removed my tailgate. Hard to see but it was the only pic I could find at the moment. The bumper was made to sit up high to hide the gap and the "tailgate delete covers" (as I like to call them) attach by dzus fasteners up top and bottom, so they come off with two twists.

I'll try to find some better pics.
