Yes to your question regarding downshifting going downhill. You can run manual mode and control what gear you are in to help slow the truck without using the brakes as hard. As stated weight in bed helps along with control of the skinny pedal.

Have never lost control and i live on the artic ice roads. Last wimter i ran mud grapplers on ice roads in 2x4. As everyone said it all comes down to the skill of the driver wnd how fast you are going.
