moon roof vs. sun roof

A moonroof is a type of sunroof. A sunroof is the generic term used to describe any hole in the roof that allows light and/or air in.

A moonroof is where that hole has a cover that slides between the roof sheetmetal and the headliner. Usually it also implies that sliding action is motorized/electrified (as opposed to hand cranked).

Make sense?

Right, BigJ, my understanding is that a moonroof is glass while a sunroof is a solid piece of sheet metal, both open and function the same, except when its closed you can see out of the glass one, and look at the moon...lol

I always figured that some company trademarked the term "sunroof", so others were forced to come up with a different term.
