What kinds of bike racks are you using with your truck?
Today we bought a Thule 916 XTR hitch mounted platform bike rack with 20% off. The reason we went with a platform rack was due to our mountain bikes frame geometry and the desire to keep the bed clear for our sons bike trailer and gear for weekend trips. After installing it and using it we're still not 100% sold on the rack so we're looking for opinions. Some things we noticed:

I guess each of us have our preferences, but would like to hear of different solutions to hauling bikes, bike trailers and gear etc...

Good
- Very easy to load 2 bikes.
- Individual built in locks for each bike - however these are deterrent devices, not security.
- Seems pretty solid with some beefy hardware.
- Don't have to take wheels off - handy time saver with an impatient little one.
- Generally good reviews and ratings online.
- Rack feels like it sticks out a long way when folded down.
- Have to bolt the rack into the receiver. Added step to go find your 20mm wrench. (our garage is just long enough for the truck, so have to take it off to park in the garage)
- Front wheel cup is about an inch too tall to allow the tailgate to open fully. Have to pull a pin to lower rack even further.
I guess each of us have our preferences, but would like to hear of different solutions to hauling bikes, bike trailers and gear etc...
