Just spent the past hour reading trailer threads. Hooked up a trailer tonight just, plug and play. Everything works fine. Turn singles, break lights, running light etc. The problem is that I have a message on the dash that say trailer disconnected. I set up a default trailer but each time I apply the trailer break I get the same message. I have cleaned the plugs and added dielectric grease but still get the same message. The flat four pin plug from the trailer was to short to reach the truck so I added an extension that added the length needed but it also converted the 4 pin to the big round plug. I would like for the trailer breaks to work.

Thoughts?

If the trailer is a 4pin, it won't have wiring for brakes. That may be why the truck thinks it's disconnected. You need to add the brakes and rewire to a 7pin if you want brakes.
