Oil based undercoats are pretty good as they won't stick if there's moisture there, and they do stay around for a long time.
My cheap alternative as a teenager was to use a Wagner power sprayer and used engine oil on my Bronco. Worked great, helped wash the mud off, but Dad didn't exactly like what it did to the driveway... But I ddin't have much rust on a 20 year old truck.

I'm looking at getting mine at or around April and being that I live in New England, I am very interested in learning more about the product(s) you used to undercoat your Raptor. Is it just a clear-coat paint or specifically an undercoating? Where did you purchase it and cost? Have you used this on other vehicles? Thanks in advance, TheJoker

Yea its pretty good stuff I did a few tests with some parts I had in the weeks leading up to receiving my truck, It sprays on like an oil and after about a day its a tacky wax. After about 2-3 days its fully cured and completely dry and doesnt collect dirt. However, if you get something and scrap it hard enough it will come off, so in the future it may need a touch up here and there but overall I think it ten times better then that tar junk. Atleast if it does start to rust somewhere you can see it and take care of it. And it makes the bottom of your truck look like it got a clear coat. lol

Someone asked if it would be good for a truck a year old.........I dont see why not. Yea you probably have some rust starting already but I live in the salt belt and when my black truck came off the carrier friday it looked white. It had to be detailed twice it was so bad, and then I went to my friends shop to power wash the salt off the bottom. Once I got it back to the dealership I work at I had to wipe the whole bottom down by hand before spraying the undercoat. And I already had rust starting at that point......So I dont think it ever to late to undercoat. Besides, rust only forms with moisture and oxygen. Under sea piping is submerged its whole life in salt water and never rusts, and thats because there is not enough oxygen present to start the rusting process. If you do a good job spraying the undercoat and seal out the oxygen whatever rust has started wont progress. Thats how products like POR15 work.

The product is Amsoil HD Metal Protector, its advertised as a multipurpose lubricant as well as undercoat. In my opinion, I think it could be used for some kind of lubrication but its best used as undercoating.

Doing a quick search, I'd say this is a great product for the DIYer. It comes in a 16 oz. aerosol can which they say goes a long way. It's inexpensive so even if you applied it every couple of years, it still would be cheaper than having the truck professional undercoated. I did read that professional undercoating is bad for the environment. MPHD will not harm the environment and is safe for paint, rubber, and other surfaces.
I like that it's clear so if there is any over spray it would not show, also you could spray the lower control arms to prevent corrosion.
I also read that it is excellent for use on mower decks. I plan on doing some more research, but, I'm thinking I might buy a case of this stuff.

How is it holding up now that it's been about 9 months? what all do you need to apply this?

Did you just coat the shit out of everything under there? Will a case (12 cans) do the truck? For less than a hundred bucks certainly sounds worth doing before the salt starts flying around here.
