It's a fact that the hotspot ability would be an additional bill from ATT and most people just tether their phones so it's not a big deal for Ford to leave it out of our trucks BUT a dedicated standalone WiFi hotspot built into the truck is the missing piece that "could" enable wireless CarPlay. As I understand it wireless CarPlay cannot use bluetooth, there's too much data going back and forth so Apple uses wifi to make that happen and the host has to be the vehicle - not the phone.

That's the holy grail in my opinion.

I’ve invested a lot of hours with AT&T and Ford tech. They both informed my that my 2018 doesn’t have wifi.

I know good majority of people already know this but here is a screenshot from Ford’s site.

Ford should tell their salespeople. I was told specially it was supported but they also told me last week they had no infos yet on the 2019 raptors....anyways this is a bummer.

spoke with Ford techies and sure enough 2018 raptor and fusion are the only two that do not have wifi hotspot. called AT&T they say the only way to get it is with their after market HARMEN SPOT device which plugs into the OBD 11 port. costs $80 and the unlimited plan is $30 a month.

there must be someway we can modify our 2018 raptors to add the ford sync 3 enabled wifi hotspot, a upgraded modem, a few lines of code or something. Im not smart enough to go the code route but it certainly seems that one could get the part number for the wifi enabled modem buy it from ford and replace the old one or replace the sim card if that is possible. just need someone to let us all know where the modem is located and the part number for the wifi enabled one. any ideas fellas and ladies ?

Ford techies say that the 2019 raptor 802A does indeed have the wifi hotspot, confirmed in my phoncon with AT&T. hard to believe they left out just the 2018 raptor. I starting to feel a little left out here TD

I’m using an old Samsung phone as a hot spot, it has an extended battery and will last about 5 days on a charge (I can connect it to an additional battery for more time) It’s connected to my BlackVue dash cam and ford pass. It’s only an additional $20/mo. I’ve not found any better option yet.
Carrier is T-Mobile
