I have a few questions around the Sync3 system.

1. This is my first foray in to a Ford Sync system and I am curious if anyone that is currently running the Sync3 system (or that just knows) can tell me whether it natively supports the ability for you to play your audio from your phone over bluetooth or does it have to be plugged in and use CarPlay?

2. For the hands free ability, does it connect automatically or do you have to tell it to connect every time you start it up?

Thanks in advance!

here, on frf
the system does streaming audio and will connect automatically. apple car play is just an app that will put your apple apps on screen.

You don't need CarPlay to stream music to your truck. Bluetooth audio is a base function of the system and works great with iTunes from your iPhone.

Once you have paired, it connects automatically when you enter the vehicle.

Once paired every time you start the vehicle it syncs up. The most I do is hit the voice button and say "bluetooth audio" it will start playing music from there. You can pair more than one phone and set priority 1-2 etc... In case both you and the miss in the vehicle together

Unfortunately Sync 3 requires the iphone to be connected via USB to use the carplay feature. Wish it was done via bluetooth.

Its probably for the best anyway with how to days phone batteries last and im sure with it not being plugged in your battery will drop pretty fast..

I've had so many issues with in car bluetooth streaming acting up I'm looking forward to having a USB connection and CarPlay!
