I recommend at least a 1.5" perch collar.

I have never done a perch collar before. Does this change the ride characteristics of the truck at all? Or put any kind of accelerated wear on any components?

You won't notice much of a difference with the 1.5". Most people say there isn't any difference. You do need an alignment after install though.
