Default Are there any exhaust that make this truck sound good
I have heard trucks with downpipes and stock exhaust, afe in person, and every company I can think of online. Is there really not an option to make this truck sound good? I know this has more or less been beaten to death, but I refuse to believe it.

Short answer - no. This engine may benefit from the Borla polyphonic technology, but remains to be seen. The best solution is to leave stock, or find something that makes the exhaust much calmer.

Sasquatch 77 is a troll.

The ford touring exhaust sounds very good in my opinion.

It sounds different than a v8, you cannot change this.

Donít try.

You can dump a whole $hit ton of money on an exhaust that will do nothing but make more noise.

If you manage to find one that makes more of the noise that you like, youíre good but how much have you spent?

Iím thinking @Guy could have bought 3 new sets of K02ís for what heís spent on exhaust :-)

I actually think the Kooks catted downpipes with stock mufflers wasnít too bad and actually worth a few hp, but itís not cheap hp for sure.

The thing is, nobody can tell you what you are going to like by way of exhaust. They might be able to tell you what they think you will or should like, but itís their opinion and not yours.

I agree.

The only caveat is that the cat backs on the raptor are good for 10 wheel horsepower and about 20 torque.

Downpipes make less. Youíre lucky if you snag 5 ponies. It just isnít where the bottleneck is located. They can come into play when youíre heavily modifying the rest of the engine.

Are there dyno charts I missed? I don't disagree but traditionally what I've seen is the downpipe/s make more power than the catback. Looking at a stock Gen2 downpipe vs an aftermarket downpipe side by side, the aftermarket appears to have clearly less restriction.

+1 @k-rub

While Iím open to the possibility that there -may- be the potential for unlocked hp in a cat back, I want to see proof - back to back dyno of a truck where the only change is the cat back.

Post Ďem up!

(because the only hp / tq gained from cat backs is in advertising material)

+1 for the Ford Performance Touring.

Coming from a 2011 5.0 daily driver mustang, that had full CAI, Boss intake manifold, offroad xpipe and bassani catback (yes the CA Air Resources Board loved me as well as my neighbors when I left for work at 5am); I found the 2018 Raptor exhuast underwhelming. Not bad but just understated.

Note: the only way to make a 6 cyl. sound like an 8 cyl. is to add 2 more cylinders. You can make it louder, raspier, and even slightly deeper...but nothing will make it sound like a v8.

I come from the world of Mustangs ('96 v6, '99 v6, '05 GT and '11 GT) where arguments on the merits of modding a v6 versus simply buying a GT (v8) rival the Gen 1 v Gen 2 wars here. So I appreciate the position that money spent on a cat back for a v6 truck (TT or not) could be spent elsewhere.

However, The thing I do like about the FP Touring exhaust (made by Borla) is that it's a slight improvement in tone and volume to the Raptor's exhaust...without drone or being obnoxious (i.e. ATAK). Not a swipe at anyone who likes the ATAK (I know what obnoxious sounds like from my last vehicle - just not my cup of tea anymore), I just don't see the point in making a v6 "louder". Whether it's a 4cyl. suburu or 6 cyl. mustang.

If it's within your budget, I can only say positive things on the FP Touring. Great product and the sound is a definite improvement, without being over the top and "trying" to be a v8.

Itís like this...

Breathe through a 4 inch PVC PIPE.
Any restriction?

Breathe through 6 inch PVC PIPE.
Any restriction!

In both cases it will feel exactly like you are breathing in an open room.

Theoretically. 6 inch PVC pipe is less restrictive than a 4 inch PVC pipe. So why then does it not make a difference to suck in a breath through either one?

Because the flow and negative inspiratory force that a person can generate is far less than the nominal amount of restriction offered in a 4 or 6 inch sized pipe.

In other words.... if the engine is breathing less than the flow restriction that is present.... making that flow restriction less isnít going to do very much.

Iím sorry I donít have the dyno graph(s) any more but I did have one of a kooks on a raptor with a stock catback, stock tune.

The horsepower curve could have been almost superimposed... maybe 5-7 horsepower at certain points.

Maybe with a catback... a tune... etc.... maybe it would be additive and youíd see a little better response because the engine would be breathing more.... but Iím not so sure.

If you look... switzer put down 550 with their big turbos and stock downpipes and stock exhaust. Theyíre just now looking at opening things up.

I think ford did a decent job with the outflow this time.
