Cold transmission lurches between 3rd and 5th gear. Common?

Anyone else experience this? Happens always on the first drive of the day, with the engine remote-start warmed up for about 60s. Slow to moderate acceleration pulling into the street. Happens when the truck is up shifting from 3rd to 4th.

It’s really an odd sensation that’s hard to describe. My body goes forward, then finally shifts and I go backwards. If I was holding a cup of coffee I’d almost certainly spill it.

I read a few times on here that there is a transmission flash out there that may help. Its not advertised, meaning theres no TSB, mailer or alert on the Ford Pass app. Id call the dealer and see if theres something available and hopefully it does the trick. Its probably the 1st thing they would do anyways.

Good luck and let us know if it works.

I had my transmission in there for another reason in March, and they did do the flash at that time.

Tbh, I don’t recall it behaving like this prior to that... Maybe it did I’ll never know for certain at this point in time though.

mine does the same thing sometimes on the first drive of the day. Also, at times when I take my foot off of the gas I get some sort of mechanical metal grinding.

Always the first drive of the day. ONLY the first— good point.

I’ve never heard the grinding though, sorry!

Same here, always to 5th, wasn’t paying attention to whether it was only when cold or not. But I noticed it doesnt happen in sport, or if i have my foot down more when in normal mode

Can you try to remember to look next time if it’s actually 3rd to 4th? (And not 5th)

I get that from 3-4 occasionally and 4-5 more regularly. It is also not just on the first shift after starting. Getting the truck tuned exaggerated the problem. I'm also starting to get a hard shift between 1-2 at times. I'm not overly impressed with this Schwinn 10 speed transmission so far.

Are you guys still having this problem after the ECM reflash? I had my ECU flashed and the tables reset and still having the issue. I have had the control module replaced due to harsh shifts from Park to Drive and up/down shifts from 1-3-5 to 3-1.

When the car is warmed up... no issues. Always the first drive
