That EPA article is really iffy.

The whole thing is based on the assumption that one configuration of the truck that doesn't hit the standards makes up 40% of F150 sales. Levine says thats wrong and the number is really 2%.

The author also claims that the CAFE standards are making the trucks too expensive and unpopular - but then goes on to say how people are willing to pay for the upgrades and that F150 sales are through the roof. And he goes on about how hard it will be to meet future standards, but then lists all the ways Ford is planning to do it.

Oh, and it actually says that Ford's stock price has taken a hit because of the Google car, lol. That alone should be enough to tell you that the author is a loon.

Wonder where the government pulls these mandate numbers for auto makers to reach, seems like out of someone's ass. Need to stay out of it as its gone too far. I thought at one time that trucks were exempt from these rulings, guess not.

They're negotiated with the auto makers, to a large extent. I think 3/4 ton trucks and larger are exempt, or at least the standards are far more relaxed for them.

Half ton trucks are going to get more efficient and there's nothing anyone can do about it. Most people won't care, but the ones who do will just switch to 3/4 tons, and be all the happier for it.

450hp from all new TT 3.5L is not that impressive, having in mind an almost decade old 2.0L motor in Mitshubishi Evo X is pushing almost 300hp with its final edition this year said to be making around 400hp. In addition, I have a feeling the real world fuel economy is not going to be that great too.

The same EVO that gets soundly trounced by the 2.3L 350hp RS and is mostly discontinued?

I wonder if the V12 and V10 crowd back in the day said the same thing when cars were dropped down to V8s. haha

I'm on my 3rd Ecoboost engine now. The first one was in the SHO and was programmed and modified CAI, Borla exhaust pumping out around 450 HP. This was one fast car in all wheel drive. Very little slip at the start and 0-60 numbers that would rival cars costing twice as much. What impresses me the most with these EB engines is the amount of torque and you can feel it when climbing in mountains. It's almost effortless going up hill. Had that SHO at over 150mph and a Fusion 2.0 around 125-130mph. They are fast!

This new EB Raptor will kick that 6.2 in take off, 0-60, and pulling. Hell the fastest F150 stock right now is the 2.7 EB. It's a rocket for a production truck. There is no comparison. I don't see the problem and I was actually hoping they would stick the EB in the Raptor so it's a dream come true for me. I could care less for the noise. I tried to add killer sounds to the SHO using Borla exhausts and after numerous modifications I finally went to the Borla factory and took a ride with the president. He said, hey it's a V6, and you aren't going to get a V6 to sound like a V8. He gave me back my money and I never messed with exhaust systems again. I'm sure the 2017 EB Raptor will sound just fine. I'm sure Ford will have a 5.0 EB out for 2018. They've been working on it for awhile now so it's just a matter of time. For now I'll take 450 HP stock. I'm sure there will be programs pushing this engine to 500+ HP by next summer. There always are.

Best case scenario is an updated 6.2 or something else natty. Twin turbo V8 will not be viable cost wise for the majority of raptor buyers. supercharged v8 would be kinda cool but you gotta keep in mind this things designed to be used hard off-road.

I guess Im not getting the whine here. Its a V-6 and not a V-8, it doesnt sound "bad ass", It wont get the fuel economy claimed, whatever? Im sure it will still be one improved, refined kick ass truck that will command respect.

IF I could afford to buy a new one, I'd wait still til the bugs get worked out. But my concern would be the 10 speed tranny, not the motor. This should be the refinement of a damn good motor and make more power to boot. Should be better gas mileage too which is the major rub on the current Eco Boost. And its still a RAPTOR, the baddest production truck to date. It doesnt diminish our soon to be "non current" trucks. If things didnt improve with time and inovation, we wouldnt be here.

Everytime I see one I can't get over how ugly it looks and how it sounds like someone farting into a tin can.

You won't be seeing it for long. Your power wagon will be eating flying rocks.
