Hello all,

Let me start by saying, I have been lurking here for a little while now, researching and preparing for my new raptor, and i think this is a great community and i hope to be more involved in the future.

Unfortunately, my first post is not one of excitement or joy with my brand new raptor (even though I absolutely love this truck). I have a serious issue, and I would like your opinions of expectations and demands.

I bought this truck a little over 2 weeks ago brand new from a dealership who I will not name yet. It had 60 miles and was gorgeous. I worked out a good price, and went down and inspected/purchased the truck. It was a cloudy day, and I did the best i could under the circumstances (it looked fine).

A few days after I washed it for the first time. Upon closer inspection, I found that the rear passanger window glass had deep gouges within the glass, and a minor scuff on the rear fender. Thinking this was the worst of it, i had the glass replaced (only $240) and i decided to live with the scuff thinking; "if this was the worst of it oh well things happen."

I then took the truck to a prefessional auto detailer to have OptiCoat pro plus installed. Around 8 o'clock at night (he works indoors and prefers to coat at night for temperature reasons) i receive a call from him. He asks me if i was aware the my door had been repainted (he knew the truck was brand new). I said there is no way that is possible. He described a horrible blend job with overspray and obvious wet sand marks on the rear passenger door. He took pictures which I am attaching with this post.

My stomach sank. My immediate thought was that it was damaged in transport and the dealer fixed it. I called the salesman who I worked with who immediately put me in touch with their GM. He is adamant that they did not work on it and it must have come from Ford like that. After some back and forth (I have no reason to believe they are lying to me, but I operate under the saying "trust, but verify") we are notifying Ford tomorrow for a claim.

My question is, what should I demand here? I purchased a brand new truck that was obviously damaged some where and resprayed (I cant imagine the factory doing this....)

What do you all think? I am not going to name any names as we are just beginning this journey, but should I be happy with a door repaint? I feel as the severity if this issue calls for a full replacement. I am now out $400 due to the installation of the optics's coat not being complete as well (only cleaning and partial polishing occurred, door is in original state).

This sucks.

thanks

Colin

I don't know about today but in the late 80's my Dad ran a body shop and was contracted sort of with a Ford dealer and I cannot even count how many brand new Taurus's and Escorts and other Ford things my dad fixed due to dropped chains on a carrier and other crap.

Buyers I'm sure never knew.

You should get a priority 1 re-order. That's where I'd start if it was me. Shoot for the moon man, stand tall and don't back down.

You guess I'll have a flashlight on my paint before I even leave the dealers lot...

I don't expect the paint to be perfect at delivery at all. I've already requested no washing pre-delivery because of obvious reasons on a black truck and Im going to correct then expel wrap but I'd be kinda upset knowing I had after-the-build paintwork done at who knows where.

Not likely the GM would know about it as they usually delegate and aren't aware of the day to day operations. The sales or fleet manager would, whomever at that dealer accepts delivery and maybe the service manager when the PDI is done. But not unlikely a porter messed up and had his "buddy" in the body shop do a quick fix.

Not trying to be a downer but they will most likely shoot you the bird and say you took it from the dealership and accepted it in good condition. It sucks but if ford did the work I am sure it's covered under their warranty for corrosion etc. I hope you are able to make restitution with them and are ultimately happy with your truck.

Sucks that it was damaged. Sucks more that they didn't tell you. Sucks even more that you didn't notice it but every new car buyer is Ga-Ga over their new vehicle when they're seeing it for the first time.

Talk to the dealership and confront them politely and tell them you're not at all happy with their repair work. Tell them you want it re-done to your satisfaction.

Good luck!

A full replacement of what? The door? Because there’s no way on God’s green earth you’re getting a new truck for a cosmetic issue. That is just nucking futs!

Just be honest with the dealer. Ask for a repair to your satisfaction of the door, paint, clear coat and reimbursement for the window. You won’t get the window, you can’t prove anything unless you took pictures.

This post should be an object lesson to everyone to go over their trucks with a fine tooth comb. Bring along a trusted “second set of eyes” to help. This is a big $$ purchase so make sure you test everything.
Back around the January, ’17 time frame we had thread going on what to check for, that never got stickied but should have.

For the record, I got up underneath the truck with a big @ss flashlight, before and after the rather rigorous test drive. I’m surprised the saleswoman still speaks to me after the test drive, and I drew scowls from my wife 3 times. I checked the paint several times, radio function, balance, fade, all the electronics. We were over an hour just going over the truck. One thing I missed - wifi. Lucille must not like to connect to wifi because she resists it. The range for wifi is like 20 feet. I can key fob start the car from 100 yards, but the wifi range is only 20 feet ! oh well.

Good luck on the repair, keep a level head and remember in the big scheme of things, this is a minor issue. You’ll get through this and be the better for it.

If they are acknowledging it came that way, wouldn't that mean it's less of an issue to get it rectified?

But yeah, if you're expecting a replacement for a paint blemish, you're dreaming at best and delusional at worst. Unless time wasting is a hobby of yours, I wouldn't even bother trying to get a replacement.
