So after spending 4 hours in lines and windows at CA DMV in San Clemente, CA I still do not have license plates...

I bought the truck brand new 2018 Raptor from a Las Vegas dealer...After six days I went to CA DMV office to register my truck.

I had the following with me to register:

Retail Sales Agreement
SMOG check
Vehicle weight verification
Proof of Insurance
Completed Vehicle Inspection form completed by same CA DMV

The DMV would not register without vehicle registration or Title or Manufacturer Cert of Origin...I have registered many new out-of-state vehicles in CA and the requirement for vehicle registration (impossible to have since it is new and I am trying to register in CA, Title , I financed 20K(big mistake)...and dealership said they do not give title or Cert of Origin....thank you CA DMV---I appreciate wasting half my day and I still do not have plates....To be continued....

Subscribing. I'm awaiting delivery of a 2018 from a dealership out in Indiana and I will have to go through the registration experience myself. Guidance will be much appreciated and good luck. Hopefully everything turns out well.

Nothing awesome about DMV especially Kalifornia's DMV.

Yes, you do need a title. Since you financed it, the bank you financed it with will provide the title directly to the DMV. You'll need the DMV to request it from your bank and they will then send it to them.

And you need registration as it should have been registered in NV where you purchased the vehicle.

Your dealership should know all this since they must be selling vehicles that are going to CA

Hi,

I bought the vehicle in Las Vegas and received a 10 day transport permit to drive back to my home in SoCal...Why would I register a brand new vehicle in Nevada (where I do not live or reside or work? Only to register it in California?

I'm just going to pay off the 20K and get the title----I have bought 2 new vehicles from this dealer in Nevada in the past 4 years and not had the requirement for title or Manufacturer Cert of Origin---Just mainly don't like he idea of driving around without plates---good way to meet police on a regular basis...SO my 70K truck will sit for the next 30 days---DMV should be shut down and privatized...I am registering a truck, not opening a casino....Lesson learned on my part---

I just went through this. Yes you need to take all of those steps but its relatively painless. If you don’t have the Cert of Origin however your toast. The dealer has to have the cert origin/title in order to sell the truck. They need to send that Paperwork to you LOCAL DMV. You will then get a letter from the DMV stating everything else you need to get done.

DMV needs the bill of sale to see the taxes you paid. I actuallly paid too much in taxes and California, believe it or not, owes me $3k

I think I just had to give the name and address of the bank I was financing through on that vehicle inspection form. I don't have the title. Maybe try a different DMV or just go back and hope to get a DMV lady that knows what she is talking about. Either way that sucks. Dealing with the DMV is the worst.

You need an MCO (manufacturer’s certificate of origin). There’s no way around it. This isn’t a new requirement, it’s always been that way. The dealer should have either provided it for you at the time of purchase or mailed it to you after pick up. I bought my Raptor from out of state, got my MCO when I picked up the truck, drove it home and had it titled in my home state in a matter of days.

I bought mine in Vegas, registered in Cali. I went through a registration service that was provided by the dealer. It was basically this lady who runs a reg. service out in Riverside and she contracts with the dealer.

Anyways, needed to provide her with Smog and a VIN verification. While getting he VIN verification done, (btw happens at the drive up area like those taking the driving test)the subject of Certificate of Orgin came up. I just showed him my window sticker and was like its built in Michigan blah blah, check out the UAW sticker on the window blah blah and he signed it off.

Sent that and the smog to the lady and in 2 weeks I had registration and plates. She essentially goes to the DMV for you but she probably has a streamlined process.
