Could be a reliability update. I remember Foutz having his intake pop loose at one of those joints so reducing the number might help with that.

Someone needs to check if they've strengthened the lower A arm brackets.

It is definitely cost savings... reduction of part count.

Even if it is a cost savings, what does it matter? Is Ford the only vehicle manufacturer that has ever considered cost during manufacturing? And maybe it's an improvement. Do vehicles ever improve year to year?

Now get back on the Dodge lot and try to move some Rams.

Everything you say is in a negative context about GEN 2, including your "cheaper" comment. A positive spin would be "a new light weight design". Have you ever said anything positive about the new Raptors? Instead you like every post where someone has an issue.
