Toyo's are all 13.50 but 93lbs in 17", 93lbs in 18" and 94lbs in 20"

I was specifically looking at 37x12.50x20 Nittos vs. 37x13.50x20 Toyos. The weights listed were 80lbs and 94lbs, respectively. Those weights listed above don't make sense to me though; wouldn't a larger wheel require less rubber? I figured the 17s would be the heaviest, then 18s, then 20s as long as we are talking about the same overall circumference.
Having learned that the Nitto is actually 88lbs, I may be considering another tire. Specifically the Mickey Thompson Deegan 38 that comes in at 79lbs for a 37x12.50x20.
I can't tell you why the weights are the way they are but based on my UPS scale and my suppliers scale that's what they are. Toyo's AT2's for example: 35x12.50R18 (81lbs) is heavier than their 35x12.50x17 (70lbs) and 35x12.50x20 (79lbs). I'm sure load rating plays a role but I can't explain why they're so dramatically different from one to another especially when one has more rubber and the other less...

Sorry about the derailment OP. Toyo or Nitto would be a great choice. Go for the tire you like the look of better.

It must have to do with 10-ply vs. 8-ply and load ratings like you suggested. Thanks for all the info. I'll probably be contacting you about this more when I get closer to that time to buy.

I really like the Toyos. I got way past 40K miles with my last set and changed only because I got tired of looking at the low tread tires.
I live outside of Phoenix and it just doesn't get any hotter than this place so I don't think the post about heat is a factor with a Toyo tire.
